David Bishop

Obituary of David Noel Bishop

David Noel Bishop, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all, passed unexpectedly February 13, 2022.  He was 66 and just recently retired from his business where everyone knew him as the “ham man”.

He met his wife of 39 years, Cindy while working as a division manager at the Waffle House.   After years of success in this position, David had an opportunity to follow his dream to own his own business. Hickory hams quickly became a local favorite and had a dedicated following. When the business had an opportunity to grow, David and Cindy took the risk and became part of the HoneyBaked ham family. With their dedication, loyal employees, and a strong customer base they became the one of the most successful HoneyBaked hams in the country.

Most of their employees became part of their extended family. As the owner and manager, David was kind, compassionate and a role model for many.  Even after David retired, you could often find "the Ham Man" visiting the folks at his former restaurant.

One of David's proudest accomplishments was going to Duke University on a Full ride football scholarship after playing at Northeast High in St.Petersburg.  He loved being a Dukie and continued to be very close to many of his team mates.  He also loved golfing, boating and watching sports. He had a gift of making everyone feel special.

Above all, David and Cindy loved being with their grandchildren Keegan and Mackenzie, and always looked forward to their yearly summer vacations. David was so proud of the kids and loved bragging about them... family is first for David.

In addition to his grandchildren, Keegan and Mackenzie Stoddard and their mother, Tara, David leaves behind his wife, Cindy, son Noel, sister Laurie and (Rusty) Bogue, brother Mark and Angie Houser and niece and nephew, Drew and Caroline Lewis. His parents, C Noel and Shirley Bishop preceded him to heaven.

The family is inviting everyone to celebrate David's life Wednesday Feb. 23 at 3 PM at the HoneyBaked Ham at 12040 Anderson Rd. Tampa.  The event is casual and we look forward gathering and sharing events of David’s life.
