Colonel Carruthers was my partner supporting Honor Flight from Manassas American Legion Post 10 for several years. He shared my passion for honoring the WWII Veterans coming to visit their WWII Memorial. We passed out hundreds of bottles of water to the WWII Veterans. My favorite memories of Bill at the WWII Memorial will always be how he got passing women (young and old) to give him a kiss. He was a sly fox. When talking to him about his time flying unarmed RF-4s over North Vietnam, he always expressed "what was the worst that could happen"? Colonel William "Bill" Carrutghers is a true American Hero that few will ever know about. I'll truly miss my friend, Colonel Bill. Rest in Peace my friend. CMSgt (ret) Jay Wilson

I was so very sorry to hear of the Colonel's passing, and I wish to extend our most sincere condolences to the family for your loss. He had such an awesome career and full life. Duty, Honor, Country. I am a former Air Force aviator, 23 years, mostly in the back of a Rescue C-130, and while not a pilot, I fully understand his love of flight. I know I speak for the entire Carruthers Clan when I say his passing is a loss for all us. Rest in Peace, Sir. Sincerely, Patrick E. Carrothers, Chief, Clan Carruthers
