Obituary of Mendel Claxton

CLAXTON, Mendel St. Laurent, 57, of Lutz, Fla., passed away Sunday, November 13, 2011. He was born in Antigua, West Indies and moved to Florida in 1995. Mendel was a graduate of the University of South Florida and earned his Master’s degree in Accounting and Information Systems. He has worked as a CPA with Reingruber & Company as well as Chase Manhattan Bank. He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the American Marketing Association. Mendel was a member of the Grace Communion Fellowship Church and volunteered as the treasurer for the church. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Selma; two sons, Damien of Antigua and Mendel Claxton II of Jacksonville; three daughters, Natasha Drigo and her husband, David of Tampa, Tifany of Jacksonville and Megan of Lutz; five brothers, Milburn and his wife, Gloria, Maurice, Harold and his wife, Wanda, Ira, Melvin and his wife, Zena; seven sisters, Margarita Claxton, Alberdore Farrell and her husband, John, Muriel Joseph and her husband, Ted, Petronella Claxton, Lonette Bertrand, Myrna Gardner and her husband, Donald, Marina Joy Claxton; grandson, David C. Packer. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 19th at the Zephyrhills Wesleyan Church, 38924 C Avenue, Zephyrhills, FL 33542. Interment will follow at Oakside Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
