Obituary of Donald Thomas Thornton

THORNTON, Donald T., 77, of Land O’ Lakes, passed away Saturday, October 9, 2010. He was born in Pontiac, Michigan, to William and Alma Thornton. He came to Florida from North Carolina in 2003. Donald served in the Marines during the Korean Conflict. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degree from Michigan State University. He was a physical education teacher and retired from Birmingham Public Schools in 1986. Donald is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Shirley; two sons, Marc and his wife, Lynne of Lutz, and Jeffrey of Clearwater; two daughters, Amy and her husband, Chris Douthitt of Oldsmar, and Abby Dillworth of Charlotte, NC; brother, William of Michigan; sister, Susan and her husband, Larry Goffar of Florida; sister-in-law, Dodie Coviak of Michigan; eight grandchildren, Stephen (Kathi), Zachary (Stephanie), Sara (Jason), Leah (Jerry), David Alex (Lauren), Bradley, Taylor, and Drax; five great grandchildren, Cali, Elijah, Kyleigh, Aiden, and Owen; many nieces and nephews along with many other family and friends. A celebration of Donald’s life will take place 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Loyless Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment will take place at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell on Monday, October 18th at 10:30 a.m..
