Shirley & Family, You know how much you and Don are loved. We are so blessed to have been with Don for the last 6 + years and learned so much from his example of caring and giving to others. Don knew that I felt that he was the brother I never had and I will always be thankful that God gave me a chance to spend so much time with him on the golf course and just "doin' things". God has taken him home to really keep an eye on us now and make sure that the golf course in Heaven is ready for the rest of us when we get there !! Love & Prayers for you and all of your family !! Dear Shirley and Family, In Ecclesiastes 3 : vs 1 & 2 "There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot." We were so fortunate to have Don as a friend for several seasons. God found joy and satisfaction in Don's daily tasks of helping everyone at the Groves. Knowing that our Lord and Savior has a special place for Don should give you and your family great peace and joy. Your friends in Christ. Priscilla and Larry

Although I only had the pleasure of meeting Don during a couple of family occasions with Sharon, I quickly saw how much he loved his family. And I was impressed by how generous he was in using his skills and resources to help his family and friends. I wish I had been able to spend more time with him -- I'm sure many feel the same way -- but I know he is in a better place. My thoughts and prayers are with Don's friends and family.

Don was such a wonderful uncle to me all of my life. Rob and I have talked many times about how fortunate we were to have had Don and Shirley and our cousins living so close when we were growing up. I've always loved spending time with the Thornton clan! Don always seemed to be stirring up his special brand of trouble -- nothing and no one escaped his good-natured wit! He could brighten up any room with his twinkling eyes and signature grin! I know that no one wanted Don to suffer any longer in his failing body. It's just that it is such a great loss that he is gone from this earth. I feel so sad! I know Don is at peace. To all of our family and Don's friends, may we also find peace at this time. We celebrate your life and are better for having known and loved you; rest in peace, sweet Uncle Don.

I've heard a lot of stories over the years I've been with Alex about Grandpa Don. No worries, they were all good. Abby has told me how Alex takes after his Popeye-armed Grandpa, in countless ways. After meeting him, I saw exactly what everyone meant. Don, was so warm and welcoming, and truly made me feel like part of the family. I enjoyed our couch conversations. He was so strong. His smile could brighten up the darkest talk. I'm so grateful that I had the opportunity to meet such a great man. My thoughts go out to everyone. Love, Lauren

Hey to all. I just helped Mom and Merle find the website over the phone (that was not any easy task, but a funny one) as the way I will always remember Don as the funny one. I will alway remember how he made me laugh and how I could not wait to see you both when we came to see Mom and Merle. I am so glad that you came back into our lives and were sorry to see you move to Florida. The video was incredible. I will have to get Mom to fill me in on who's who, as it has been too many years. It is hard to type through the tears, but as I think Abbey said, he is now free. We love you all and I will keep remembering the laughter. Love and God Bless, Wendy, Bobby and Harrison

Dear Dad, I am smilling and so happy for you now that you are free. You have been the best, most provident, thoughtful and kind father that anyone could ever hope for. The example and guidance you have given me, over the years, has helped me at every turn in my life. Without you (and my wonderful mother), I would not be who I am today. You have been my hero, more times than I can count. I have always been so proud to have been able to say you are my father. For that, I am eternally greatful. P.S. Thank you for helping me find just the right car. You see, there you go, you're still helping and caring for me from beyond! I will always be listening and watching for your signs. You are the greatest man that I've ever known! I love you and will think of you forever. Your baby of the family, Abby

Dear Shirley and Family. We are sorry for your loss. Don gave our community so much of himself. Even to the end, he had a wonderful smile and a great sense of humor.
