We are so sorry to learn about the loss of Mitchell. We were grief stricken and shocked when we heard. We can't imagine what it must be like to lose a child, especially one as wonderful as Mitchell was. We had a great time with all of you the last time you came out to visit in California. Lee, Elizabeth and Katherine, you are in our thoughts and prayers everyday. To know that Mitchell made his mark before he left is a great comfort in this hard time. We wish you all the best and lots of love. Lauren, Ryan and Liliana Casey

I went to school with Mitch and he also rode me bus, sat next to me. He lives about 2 minutes away from me. I am very sorry about his loss and am very sad. I also cheered for the team he played football for, the Citrus Park Bills (same age group). Mitch was very nice, smart, and funny. It feels very awkward and weird without Mitch with us. He and his family will always be in mine and my familys hearts! (: *Courtney* <3

Elizabeth, Lee and Katherine Thank you all for letting us be a part of Mitchell's life. Last night brought back so many memories - he was such a big part of our history. Looking way back, I met you and Mitchell in 1998. We were both stay-at-home Moms and we connected immediately ... so did our childern. Our history revolves around our friendship and our children. So, let's start at the beginning. On Halloween, both Tatum and Mitchell dressed as bumble bees. Quite appropriate, since you called Mitchell "Bee" and I called Tatum "Bumble." Neither of us knew of the costume choice, until arrival at the party - when we both laughed our heads off. Next would be the playground. While the other children played on the swings or equipment, Mitchell and Tatum dug in the dirt. They made dirt angels and forts and came home filty. Both parents and kids alike thought we were crazy - but not us. All kids should get dirty - that is fun - and that is what baths are for - Elizabeth, you are a good Mother. Speaking of dirt, both kids were also very messy. I have to say that Mitchell takes the prize (only by a small vote) here. Ketchup was part of his daily outfit. Watch out McDonalds here we come. Mitchell once told me that he liked to wear his shoes 2 sizes too big, so he could just slip them on and never have to tie them. Mitchell was always ready for an adventure. We moved onto swim lessons - together, so they could challenge each other. Within a few weeks, both Mitchell and Tatum were swimming like pros. They were good together and taught and helped each other. We moved to Ohio in 2000. Mitchell sent monthly letters (drawings, candies) to Tatum. We were all pretty loney, so an envelope from Mitchell was always a treasure. Mitchell was a night owl. He loved staying up late. One night he spent the night with us. I put a pallet of blankets on the family room floor. At about 11:00 pm , Tatum crashed. Mitchell said, "now what do we do." I replied - "Candy". He mentioned the word candy and Tatum jumped right up. They spent the next hour chowing on smarties and star bursts. Moving forward, last summer Tatum, Mitchell and Lindsey went on a swim with the manatees adventure. They all had a great time - mostly because Mitchell named the Mama Manatee. He was so creative, full of energy and easy to be around. Mitchell made life fun. Mitchell brought out the best in my daughter, me and my family. He will always be missed and always be remembered. Penney

My deepest sympathy - to lose a loved one young and suddenly is painful. May you find comfort in knowing God is aware of the tears you are shedding - Psalms 56:8 "Do put my tears in your skin bottle. Are they not in your book?" He will soon fulfill what is written at Revelation 21:4.

Lee -- I am so, so sorry. Mitchell sounds like a truly wonderful son and person. There are no words that help when a tragedy like this happens -- something that makes no sense at all -- but I hope you will find some peace or respite from the prayers and thoughts of so many who are hoping your family will recover and heal as fast as humanly possible.

Your loss is too great for any family to have to bear. I pray that God gives you strength and courage in your grief. Your pain is certainly felt here in Louisville by all of your Humana work family. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Mitchell Whittington Bowers, I can see his dad's fine qualities in his eyes, in his smile. To quote my ever-so-wise 8 year-old grandson, "our souls tell others about who we are and for those who do good, God addresses their soul and claims them long before he claims our body"....I don't know if that makes sense to anyone but me. God Bless all the loving members of Mitchell's family and all of his friends, young and old. And, my prayers are with the young driver and his family as well.
