Obituary of Peter D. Greenberg

Since Peter's passing in November, the extended Greenberg family has been working to ensure his legacy will be celebrated and perpetuated. Both topics below are significant to Peter's wishes being fulfilled. (His obituary used to appear in this space and is available by request.) The Peter D. Greenberg Celebration of Life Service This informal event will be at noon on Saturday, March 13, 2010, on a baseball field at the West Boynton Park and Recreation Center.. We're hoping everyone can attend, as it may well be the only time to collectively pay our respects and admiration to such a wonderful man. We're planning to have some uniformed players guide family and friends from the park entrance to the specific field. A reception afterward will be at Peter's favorite hangout, appropriately named Pete's Place, where a Celebration of Peter's Life will continue with food and drink. Some family and friends will be spending Friday-Sunday at the Hampton Inn West Palm Beach Central Airport. Some rooms have been reserved but we suggest you make your plans soon as mid-March can be a very busy time in South Florida. We hope to get together with as many as possible on Friday and Saturday nights and look forward to spending time with heaps of Pete's "peeps." The Peter D. Greenberg Baseball Foundation, Inc. This non-profit -- 501(c)(3) -- charitable foundation was established recently to help fulfill Peter's long-term wish that eligible high school baseball players in Palm Beach County be afforded every opportunity to enhance their skills and lives under expert guidance from superb coaching. All donations are fully tax-deductible and this year will be used solely to help fund the varied needs of a new two-team organization that will first develop players and later provide them the most effective way to showcase their skills to college and professional scouts. Peter, who was the extremely popular and efficient General Manager of Diamond Vision Elite, enthusiastically supported this concept. Diamond Vision Elite will retain its identity and join the Palm Beach County Police Athletic League in its Under-17 division, which has many useful and admirable advantages. Foundation funding may also be available to an existing and successful PAL Under-16 team. Both programs are supervised by experienced and highly regarded Diamond Vision Elite coaches, Craig Gero and Chad Upson. Players on both teams are required to perform inner-city community service, a concept Peter strongly supported. Diamond Vision Elite players plan to wear "PDG" badges on their uniforms and "PDG" wristbands. The deep affection and respect Peter earned with his hard work and hearty humor cannot be understated. Donald Greenberg will serve as the Foundation's President, Phyllis Greenberg will serve as Vice President and the almost-legal third Greenberg son, Kenneth Goodman, will serve as Secretary. We have initiated the Foundation's funding and urge our family and friends to follow as it is a rewarding and charitable way to ensure our beloved Peter's wishes are fulfilled.
