Obituary of Zenon Andrusyshyn

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Zenon Andrusyshyn, affectionately known by many as “Golden Toe", "Big Z", or simply “Z”.   Born on February 25, 1947, Zenon died on August 7, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and remarkable accomplishments.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Susan Andrusyshyn , his daughter, Zoe & her husband Clayton Hummel with grandson Mostyn.  His son, Zuriel & wife Kristi Egeler Andrusyshyn with grand-children Zara & Zander, and his sister, Khrystia Andrusyshyn.  Zenon was predeceased by his father, John Ivan Andrusyshyn, and his mother Olga Dyka Andrusyshyn. The testimony of his belief in God has touched the lives of many, and his legacy as a man of utmost honesty, truthfulness, and strength of character will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Zenon holds the Guinness Book of World Records, Gold edition, for the longest punt in pro football, 110 yards. His other accomplishments as an athlete in the NFL, CFL and USFL speak for themselves, but what Zee would want to be remembered for is that he was a follower of Jesus Christ and his devotion to his Lord pushed him into full-time ministry. His efforts to share the Gospel in schools, under the banners of Athletes in Action, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and, later, Legacy Clubs, will produce fruit for generations to come.  In hundreds of student-led meetings, Zee shared the Good News with those who might not otherwise have any experience with church. He was amazingly constant in his approach. Because of his celebrity as a former pro athlete, his willingness to coach, his quiet, determined demeanor, and an unselfish spirit, he saw great success in not only gaining admission to schools, but carrying the Bible with him and finding willing audiences wherever he went.

Zee survived pro football for 17 years, and his achievements there are well documented, but his teaching about the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is his real Legacy. And it will forever resonate in the hearts and minds of the thousands who heard him.

Zee is sorely missed and is irreplaceable.  In lieu of flowers, funds are being raised to continue the ministry by going to www.ZenonMinistries.org, & clicking on “donate”.  Donations in his memory are greatly appreciated.

Thank you, dear Lord, for bringing our servant, teacher and friend, “Big Z,” into your presence.  And may his teachings and love for You continue to guide those he left behind.
