Obituary of Charlotte (Kinsman) Miller

Charlotte (Kinsman) Miller, 97 years old, passed away on June 25, 2023, in Tampa Florida. Charlotte was born December 30, 1925 in Wyandotte Michigan, to Alfred and Alma Kinsman. As a young girl her family moved to Land O Lakes which at that time was called Denham.

Charlotte enjoyed growing up on the family farm where they grew citrus. She attended elementary school in Lutz and graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1946. She went on to attend school at Florida Southern College and Florida State University, where she received a teaching degree in Special Education. She was admitted for candidacy for the Master’s program at the University of Alabama in 1958.

Charlotte moved to Birmingham Alabama in 1952 to teach a special education class at Charlene Elementary School and then Elyton Elementary School. While in Alabama she met and married the love of her life, William (Bill) Miller who was a noted newspaper columnist. He was a Bessemer correspondent for the Birmingham Post-Herald for more than 25 years. They married on July 27, 1956 in Bessemer Alabama.  Bill passed away from a stroke in 1974 and soon afterward Charlotte moved back to Land O Lakes to be near her mother and brother.

Charlotte spent her life overcoming the challenges of being born with Cerebral Palsy. She never let her condition slow her down and was a strong, determined, independent woman. She had a deep, abiding faith in Jesus. She is buried next to her husband Bill in Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham Alabama. She is survived by her sister Patricia Schafer and many nieces and nephews.
