Obituary of Nelson Enrique Matos

The life as we began in 1979 when we met for the first time, he ask me where was my twin sister because he saw me with glasses and then without glasses.  He always had such extraordinary sense of humor and wits. The greatest of all was and always will be is the extraordinary love and kindness for others. God had blessed me and my family and to the world with such an extraordinary human being.

The next quotes are from United States Army’s commanding officer who had given my husband the Certificate of Achievement, and it describes everything about my husband Nelson Enrique Matos.

“For Meritorious service during the period from 1973 to 1976, while assigned to the 96th ordnance company, Herbornseelbach, Germany.  Sergeant First Class Matos as storage and issue platoon sergeant during several major inspections of a two year period, displaying exemplary technical knowledge and ability.  His job was detailed and complex, the work schedule demanding and at times the nature of the work highly sensitive and classified.  He continuously put forth a maximum effort and never produced less than superior results.  He was personally involved with the welfare of all of his men and often devoted off duty time to their benefit and (this was one of the greatest quality of Sergeant Matos).  As unit Chemical-Biological-Radiological NCO, Sergeant First Class Matos maintained high standards of excellence for the care of unit CBR Defensive Equipment. Sergeant First Class Matos was appointed to quality control chief ammunition inspector on May 1975.  His diligent work as an inspector coupled with an intense desire to upgrade unit effectiveness produced exceptional results.  His attention to detail in related administrative matters produced updated and vastly improved documentation, a significant contribution to effectiveness of the quality control mission.  His extensive job knowledge, unit loyalty and professional ability are keeping with highest traditions of the United States Army”.

I like to show these quotes because it really shows the man who Nelson Matos was, is and always will be in our hearts and mind forever. His favorite words to our children were “Always do what is right especially when no one is watching!

Even though it makes me feel the time has cut short and the feelings of an extraordinary sadness for our separation, but for me as his beloved wife and best friend, I am most grateful to the Almighty God that he has blessed me with such an Angel, and I will always cherish our gifted life together until we are together again! HIS LOVE WAS AND ALWAYS WILL BE AN EXTRAORDINARY GIFT TO ALL OF US!!!

Nelson is survived in death by his loving wife of 43 years, Jeana Matos; sons, Alexander Matos and Michael Matos; brother, Denis Matos; sister, Josefina Reyes; 5 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
