Obituary of Michael W. Meyer

Michael Meyer, 80, of Lutz, FL went gently home on October 26, 2022. He was born on December 28, 1941, in Belleville, IL and moved to Florida in 2010 to be closer to family. He was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary parish, Land O’ Lakes and belonged to the Secular Franciscan Order. By profession, Mike was a junior high teacher for 37 years, all of these years at Central Junior High School in Belleville. He was a band director, taught music appreciation and computer classes as well as TV production for the district. He played French Horn during Mass at Our Lady of the Rosary parish as well as concerts in the area with the Tampa Community Band. After retirement he used his talents in woodworking for his church family as well as for the Poor Clare Sisters in IL. For many years he was webmaster for the Poor Clare Sisters at Our Lady of Mercy Monastery in Belleville. He ventured into building and detailing model airplanes and spent many hours at the flying fields in the area.

Michael is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Bonnie; two sons, Michael Jr. (Christy) Meyer; Dave (Becky) Meyer; four grandchildren; sister Mary Lou (Steven) Varys; brother Mark Meyer and nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Rosary, Land O’ Lakes, FL on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 10 am. Final burial will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Belleville, IL.
