Lawrence Flynn

Obituary of Lawrence Joseph Flynn

Lawrence Joseph Flynn, age 84, peacefully transitioned on Monday, August 24, 2020. Larry was born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn to Margaret and Lawrence Flynn on March 21, 1936.

Larry wore many hats throughout his life. Most importantly he was a faithful husband, devoted father, and dutiful veteran. He proudly served in the United States Armed Forces for twenty-seven years, closing his career as an Inspector General for the Army.

Larry was a deeply pious Catholic whose generosity extended far beyond his family. From running a local orphanage in South Korea to feeding countless families through his work at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Food Pantry in Wimauma, Florida.

He will always be remembered for unconditionally loving those close to him, his ability to find the perfectly enchanting story, and his insatiable fondness for chocolate.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Lawrence, his brother, Robert, and his two sons James and Patrick.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Chung Soon, to whom he was married for 61 years; his daughters Julie (KP) Eom, Anne (Bruce) Adams, Kathleen (Albert) Roccamora, Maureen (Martin) Herbst; as well as his son Lawrence (Deslyn).

One of Larry’s greatest joys was his grandchildren. His grandsons: Sean, Brendenn, Garret, and Lucas. His granddaughters: Diana, Donna, Tasha, Danielle, Kayla, Haley, and Ella. As well as his ever growing list of great-grandchildren.

Larry approached both his professional and personal life with humor and fairness. He was honest, trustworthy, and had a heart of gold. He was an outstanding leader and treasured friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

There will be a viewing at 9:00 AM on Friday, August 28, 2020 at Loyless Funeral Homes in Land O’ Lakes, FL prior to a military processional at Florida National Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to GulfCoast Hospice and the staff of Terra Bella at Keystone for their dedication and grace throughout this process.

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2     He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3     he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
    for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,[a]
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.
