Paul Malaba, a gentle giant, left us just like that! Can’t believe that I won’t be seeing and talking to him again.
From the moment Paul and I met, we developed a special bond which kept us enjoying each other’s company up to his last day. We communicated via WhatsApp just about every day - no topic was sacred! I am missing that already.
Paul once came by my apartment around 7:30 am holding and drinking a beer.
My fiancé asked him how he justified drinking beer that early in the morning. His response was that he was coming from night work, and just like everyone else, he was having a drink at the end of his shift. Case closed!
When we discovered that there was blood relationship between us which made him my brother-in-law (mukwasha or umkwenyane), his response was “Mukwasha my behind! You are my brother and that is the way it is going to be!” Lots of find memories in a relationship that lasted for a period of over forty years.
My family would like to send our our deepest sympathies and condolences to all those whom Paul held very dearly and were a part of his life.
He very much appreciated his former wife, Susan, for giving him and raising his two beautiful, successful and well anchored daughters, Sibusisiwe and Samara; his wife Barbara to whom he was most thankful for saving and extending his life; his two daughters who were the pride of his life; and the Malaba family family and relatives as well as his friends.
Rest in eternal peace my friend! Later!

Honestly I can’t believe I’m writing this, Uncle Paul a legend to say the least, you had swag, your a man who leaves an imprint on hearts and minds, very positive minded person, every time I visited and spoke to you Unc Paul you would broaden my horizons, always encouraging me of all the great things to look forward, if it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t even have visited America, the parts of your story you would care to share were so humbling and inspiring, a man who was a doer, to call you a great man is an understatement, you really displayed your love for your daughters and Aunt Barbara, a very principled family man, at one time I visited Unc Paul you missed aunt Barbara so much along with her cooking when Aunt Barbara was on holiday, you attempted to make lasagne burnt it and ordered pizzas to cover up haha, Uncle Paul thank you very much for the short time we spent together, blessing me with the chance to spend time with you and your beautiful family , you’ll truly be remembered, pass on peace

Paul and I had known each other since I was a young boy, our fathers worked together. He was like a brother to me. We spoke almost every day and I was meant to visit you in Florida. This is a shock to my family and I.
Paul, you are loved and will be sorely missed. Thank you for being a wonderful friend, brother and uncle to my children.
My family and I send our love to you, Barbara and the girls.

I am deeply saddened and shocked by the passing of my good and longtime friend, Paul. I first met Paul in the early 1980's in Lowell, Massachusetts. His sense of humor and infectious laughter left an indelible mark. Over the years we had not seen each other much but he did visit our home in Harare the last time he was there. Recently we exchanged bouts of banter and he always threatened he would get me one day. We enjoyed our friendship which had matured over many years. When he and Barbara moved to Florida, he joked that this is where old people like us went to die. I joked back that he should speak for himself, I wasn't Florida material yet. Rest in peace my friend. Sorely missed. Lindiwe.

We met in Francis Town Botswana July of 1975. Immediately, there was a connection and we would go on to endure the hardships of that time through Zambia, Mozambique and Malawi. Through all that, he proved to be a man to depend on. A very funny guy when the mood took him. We flew together from Malawi in '78, he to the States, I to the UK.
All these years since, we have stayed in touch carrying on with our dreams of a lavish lifestyle.
Rest in peace my friend.
Condolences to Barbara and family.
