Obituary of Dr. Gustavo R. Albear

ALBEAR, Gustavo R, MD, 93, of Tampa, Florida, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family and friends on Friday, October 4, 2019.

Dr. Albear was born in Havana, Cuba in 1925.  He attended medical school at the Universidad de la Habana to become a medical doctor.  He married his beloved Virginia in 1953.  Due to the unrest in Cuba, Dr. Albear and his family immigrated to the United States in 1964, having to leave all their belongings behind. In order to support his family in their time of need, Gustavo made the decision to change his profession from surgery to anesthesia, and practiced in the Chicago area for over 35 years. He raised his family in Hazel Crest, IL then moved to Tampa, FL in 2008.  

A man of immense love and compassion, Gustavo adored his children, grandchildren and great grandchild to no end. This wealth of love extended to all things in life: Gustavo was an avid member of the local humane society and spent many an afternoon reading in his garage and feeding the squirrels. He loved his dogs Rex, Brandy and Blue. Gustavo’s love truly knew no bounds. He loved to read, listen to opera and cook.

He is preceded in death by his wife Virginia in 2009, his mother Alicia Marquez de Albear, his father Francisco Albear de la Torre and his brother Francisco Albear.

Dr. Albear is survived by his children Dr. Gustavo Albear (Tulay Albear), Dr. Virginia Thomas (Dr. Greg Thomas) and Dr. Paul Albear ( Dr.Melissa Albear); beloved grandchildren Stacey, James, Paul, Gregory, Terry, Christopher and Ashley,  his beloved great grandchild Natalie and nephew Frank Albear (Diana).

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, October 8^th at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Land O’ Lakes.

Burial will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens in New Port Richey.

Family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Loyless Funeral Home in Land O’ Lakes. Wake service begins at 7:00 PM.
