Obituary of Wilbur Burns Albietz

ALBIETZ, Wilbur Burns, 85, passed away in Pinellas Park, Florida on June 18, 2012. Wilbur was born June 19, 1926 in Saybrook, Illinois. The son of Harvey Burns and Florence Gertrude (Bennett) Albietz, he graduated from Bedford High School in Bedford, Indiana and married his high school sweetheart and classmate, Shirley Ann Howard and went off to war. He served in Europe during World War II, earning two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. After service, he earned multiple undergraduate and graduate degrees from Ball State and worked for the Bartholomew County Schools in Columbus, Indiana, starting off as a mathematics teacher, then guidance counselor, then Dean of Boys and acting principal when the new Columbus East high school was opened. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley in 2007, great-grandchild Christopher in 2010, and a sister, Doris Tucker, in 2012. He is survived by his son, Bruce Albietz (Deena), of Clearwater, Florida, a daughter, Susan Gladhill (Paul) of Blue Ridge Summit, Pennsylvania, grandson Edward, currently serving in Afghanistan, granddaughter Sabrina of North Carolina, two brothers, Donald and Robert Albietz of Florida, and great-grandchildren Joel and Jadah. No calling or local services are scheduled. A joint funeral and interment service for Wilbur and his late wife, Shirley will be held at the Florida National Cemetery on August 3, 2012 at 10:00 a.m..
