Obituary of Richard Middleton Stockstill

Ltc Richard M. Stockstill, Sr. (USAF-Ret) was called from this life on Friday, May 25. He was preceded in death by parents Joseph and Lucille and by siblings Thomas, Joan and Joseph. He is survived by Richard Stockstill, Jr, Charles Arison, Janeal Arison and Charlene Arison. Richard was born in Sidney, OH on December 24, 1921, attended school in Oxon Hill, MD, and received his degree from the University of Maryland. He proudly served our great country starting with the United States Navy and taking an inter-service transfer and commission in the United States Air Force. His Air Force career was spent in locations such as France, Germany, two tours in Vietnam and finally, various locations within the States focused primarily on Human Intelligence (HUMINT) related activies. Richard was the recipient of the Bronze Star for his outstanding intelligence work. Throughout his career, he never lost sight of the importance of the human component in the overall intelligence picture. After retirement he lived in Berkeley Springs and Shepardstown, West Virginia and then moved to Florida, first to Jacksonville and then to Land O’Lakes where he enjoyed working on various projects at his home. Richard was a long time Washington Redskins fan and used to watch them practice at the Anacostia High School in Washington, DC. A farewell gathering of friends, neighbors and loved ones took place at his home on Memorial Day.
