Obituary of Angel Ortiz

Ortiz, Angel, 64, better known as “Papo”, was born and raised in Guayama, Puerto Rico and more recently moved to Tampa, Florida where he finally lost his battle to cancer on Friday, April 20, 2012. Directed by the stars of a true Leo, Papo was a natural born leader who had a flamboyant character, a generous spirit, tremendous charm and a magnanimous persona. His unique character traits, attributes and drive, propelled him to a successful military career and after 37 years of service, he retired as a Full Bird Colonel of the Army National Guard in 2007. Most people eat-to-live but Papo lived-to-eat; his highly developed palate and knowledge of food led him to a culinary way of life that enveloped his free time and became his creative playground. Notwithstanding his love of the culinary arts, there is no question that Papo’s life revolved around his true passion, his two daughters, Gretchen and Michelle and his granddaughter, Katia. Angel was survived by his wife of 34 years, Alma, his two daughters, his only granddaughter, his brother, his son-in-law, his parents and extended family members. A funeral mass will be held Friday, April 27, 2012 at 9:00 am at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church located at 17512 Lakeshore Rd, Lutz, FL 33558. Donations may be made in his memory to the Moffitt Cancer Foundation or to St. Timothy’s Catholic Church.
