Obituary of Sarah Hammond Aldrich

ALDRICH, Sarah Hammond, 69, of Land O’Lakes, Fla. passed away Monday, November 5, 2012. She was born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina and moved to Florida from South Carolina in 1958. Sarah loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Once you met her you instantly loved her and became a friend and member of the family. She was often referred to as “Mom” or “Grandma” even if you weren’t “family”. She was loved by many and will be missed by many more. Sarah rarely met a person she didn’t care for and vice versa, but when she did, her red headed nature came out. She was strong willed, sometimes stubborn and extremely protective of those she loved – even fiercely so on occasion. She loved her collection of angels, never having two of the same, and if you wanted to buy her something but weren’t sure what, you were always safe with an angel. She also had a love of Hess trucks at Christmas time. It became tradition with her to buy the grandkids the latest and greatest truck every year, and that tradition carried over with the great grandkids, even her great granddaughter – she never wanted to be partial. She loved cooking, going to the beach, gambling and sunset cruises. She also loved football and baseball, especially when she could watch with her husband. And if she was hungry - you had better be hungry too, because you never left her home hungry. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Bruce; four daughters, Margaret Clement and fiancé, Stephen Washenko, Linda Lemus, Catherine Aldrich and Carolle White and her husband, Bob; two brothers, Richard Hammond and his wife, Patty and Billy Hammond; sister, Betty Bumpurs and her husband, James; six grandchildren, Jeff, Justin, Jeremy and his wife, Tiffany, Sean, Katie and Amanda; two great grandchildren, Sarah Rose and Logan; and many nieces, nephews and friends. A celebration of Sarah’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 10th at Loyless Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Donations may be made in Sarah’s memory to HPH Hospice.
