Obituary of Herbert Stephenson Jenkins

JENKINS, Sr., Herbert S., 76, of Tampa, Fla., passed away Monday, October 15, 2012. He was born in Tampa and graduated from Hillsborough High School. Herb enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1952. In 1967, he joined Special Forces with the Operations and Intelligence Division and served in Vietnam Nam, Germany, France and Japan. He was a Green Beret and Master Parachutist with over 250 jumps. His awards include the National Defense Medal, multiple good conduct medals, Bronze Star with Valor and the Purple Heart. In 1973, he retired as a Sargent First Class. Herb was a Master Mason, an avid fisherman and animal lover. He enjoyed catching bass and grouper, and smoking mullet. He was preceded in death by his brother, Alan Anthony and sisters, Abby and Recye. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Paula; son, Steve and his wife, Beth; daughter, Sheila; three brothers, William and his wife, Erika, Grover and Vernon and his wife, Martha; three sisters, Helen Stokes, Dorothy Joyner and Beverly Douglas and her husband, Robert; two grandsons, Robert and Stephen, and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday October 26th at Loyless Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Disabled American Veterans. DAV Memorial Program, P. O.
