Obituary of John E. Mercer

MERCER, John E., Jr. 59, of Lutz, FL, formerly of Boyertown, Pennsylvania, passed away unexpectedly in Tampa, FL. on Friday, August 17, 2012. He was married to his lovely bride of 29 years, Karen (Ramsey) Mercer, also of Lutz, FL. He was employed as a clerk at DDS Lab Inc. Born in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, on September 23, 1952, he was the son of John E. Mercer, Sr., husband of Carol, Blue Ball, PA; and Shirley A. (Wolfgang) Shoemaker, wife of Ron, Lincolnton, NC. Completing most of his schooling at Boyertown Area School District, he graduated in 1970 from Interboro Senior High School, Prospect Park, PA. A hard worker, John was third-shift foreman for a number of years at A.W. Mercer's, Inc., founded by his great-grandfather, Albert W. Mercer. In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a daughter, Tina wife of Bob Cosgrove, West Grove, PA; a son, John O. Mercer, Altamonte Springs, FL; two grandchildren, Bobby and Lizzie Cosgrove; a brother Daniel (deceased); a brother Stephen husband of Joanne of Wolmelsdorf, PA; a brother Matthew husband of Suzanne of Terre Hill, PA; a sister Nadine wife of Randy Frye of Brandon, FL; and a brother Tim husband of Cecile of Terre Hill, PA. A faithful provider and source of strength; an avid fan of NASCAR, the Flyers and the Eagles; he will be sorely missed by family and friends. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm at Loyless Funeral Home on Saturday, August 25, 2012. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
