Mr. James was my band director in his first year at Wimauma High School in 1953. He taught me to play the alto saxaphone. In my senior year, he got an ensemble together and taught us to sing. At our graduation, we sang Stormy Weather, and I Believe. None of us thought we could sing, yet he blended our voices together beautifully. One of our band members went on to become a band director, and went to Brandon High School. I believe Mr. James was still there when Lonny Keen went there, then when Mr. James left Brandon, Lonny became the band director. For sure, Mr James has left behind a legacy and many people who loved and admired him for all the talents he was so passionate about. Surely, he found his calling, and did those things that God called him to do. I never had the opportunity to see him again after I graduated, but I held him in my heart. I will never forget the difference he has made in my life, and the life of others. Prayers, blessings, and peace be with all those who loves him.

Mr. James was our next door neighbor for 12 years. My husband would talk football with him and our dogs would love to stop and say hello when he was sitting out in front. He mentioned that he worked for the school district but we didn't know of his many accomplishments. The best thing you can say about someone is that they lived life well. Mr. James certainly did. Condolences on your loss. God Bless, Mr. James. May he rest in peace.

I was in BHS from 1957-60 but I was never a student of Mr. James. I knew of his reputation as a music teacher who demanded from his students their very best. Reading his obit was an eye-opener for me. I never knew his other accomplishments and can only feel that I am the loser for never having known him that well. My heart-felt sympathy goes to his wife, children and other family members. May God give you abundant peace and contentment in the following days. Blessings Genie Boyd Davis '60

I was in his first band at BHS. He was an incredible mentor to all of us and he put BHS on the map. At age 70, I am still living life according to his philosphy. A wonderful instructor, leader and developer of those in his charge. My heartfelt condolences to the family.

T. Edison James: What a great man! Most of us knew Ed as an absolutely fearless, in-your-face warrior for music, music education, teachers and students. His fellow professionals held the deepest respect for Ed. This is not to say that Ed was regarded with unanimous warm fuzzies. Some may have dreaded the sight of that yellow Toyota driving into the school parking lot. Administrators, in the full knowledge that Ed was an unstoppable force, may have sweated just knowing he was waiting outside their office. Most of us quaked in our shoes when he entered our classroom door. While not all of us loved the stuffings out of Ed, we were uniform in respecting him. Ed was the classic Renaissance man who appreciated and could speak eloquently about art, wine, food, jewelry, real estate, finance, science, math and a plethora of other topics. Ed possessed an awesome mind. If Ed was your friend, he was the best friend you ever had. You could tell him anything--he was like a priest. To Ed's family: Ed openly proclaimed his love for his children and his luminously beautiful Charlotte. I don't know how much he expressed his pride and love to you, but he surely told the rest of us! Ed was an exemplar. I was a better professional and a better person for having known Ed James. I am just one; there are hundreds who would say the same. I will always remember Ed with gratitude. Ed was not always gentle; but he was always wise and genuine. He was a priceless mentor. With sympathy and best wishes for Ed's family, Claudia Davidsen
