Dear Marcia, Beni, and family. I am so sorry to hear of Jack's passing. I worked at the golf course and always enjoyed my time there. I have thought of you all often when I drive by 56th and Georgetown. I really miss the courses, especially the lighted Par 3 on a Friday night. :) Jack was too strong for such an early death, but I imagine he lived life well enough for two or three men. Again, I am so sorry. I really like the idea of him becoming a part of the reef. Blessings to all the family.

Marcia, We just returned to Indianapolis early this morning. I had a long time to think of all the great times your family and ours have had over the years. You know I loved Jack, he was our brother, as you are our sister. All the prayers that all of us said for Jack worked! Oh what a sweet sound, Jack playing the pipes in Heaven upon our arrival! God Bless the Ensley Family.

Marci, Sean and Sarah, I wanted to send my thoughts and prayers to you and your family. I know this is a hard time and if there is any thing my family or I can do, please let us know. I wanted to take a minute and remember Jacko at his best- he was always fun and lived life to its fullest. Even in some of his hardest days- his attitude seemed positive and inspiring. He could fix or cook anything! I will miss the times we had at the campfires and on the yacht. The song "Party like a Rockstar" will always bring back memories of him :) I really got to know the "real" Jack when you let me into your life to do a project for school. I truely thank you for that! I'm enclosing a prayer that always touches my heart and I hope you too can relate.... Hugs! Ashley Footprints in the Sand One night I had a dream... I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord, and Across the sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; One belonged to me, and the other to the Lord. When the last scene of my life flashed before us, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. I noticed that many times along the path of my life, There was only one set of footprints. I also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in my life This really bothered me, and I questioned the Lord about it. "Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, You would walk with me all the way; But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, There is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why in times when I needed you the most, you should leave me. The Lord replied, "My precious, precious child. I love you, and I would never, never leave you during your times of trial and suffering. When you saw only one set of footprints, It was then that I carried you."

Marcia and Family- We had SO many Great memeries of Jack on his Lake. He made his dream come true to build his oun private Ski lake. He was a Big man in many ways, But also looked out for others. He was always on a mission as daylight was burning. We learned from each other on many things. He had a passion for skiing, golf and collecting cars. But his love was his family. He was one of the hardest workers I ever worked with. He will be Greatly missed by many ! May God hold in in the palm of his hand..

I have known Jack since the first days of the Ski Klub of Indy when he had to come over to my house and join at 9pm one night so he could ski there the next morning. His enthusiasm for skiing and life was contagious. I was also one of the lucky one to get to ski at his lake in Indy. I was sadden to hear of his passing and wish his entire family well.

He was quite a guy when I knew him years ago, but we did fall out of touch when his injury caused him to be no longer able to march with the band. I have always felt somewhat in his debt for having helped me overcome my shyness about playing the pipes when he was Pipe Sargeant with the Gordon Pipers. A memory of him that I have at his best was when we were making a lap of the track at the Indianapolis Speedway and somehow or other he lost his chanter which went sort of snaking down the track ahead of him for nearly thirty feet before it came to a stop. He never lost a step and by the most fantastic bit of luck was able, without breaking stride to recover it, re-insert it into its stock with the reed still intact, and picked up the tune as though nothing at all had happened. He was also one of the most aggressive volley-ball players I've ever met. And most of all, He was fun! The world is not improved by his absence.

Jack was one of my good friends from the moment we first met in Mrs. Shipman's first grade class at Orchard School. Jack was a big fellow and looked after everyone, no one was going to get away with bullying as long as he was around, that was Jack Ensley. One time when we were in the fourth grade, some bigger guys started roughing me up in the restroom and Jack came in there and not only put a stop to it, he helped me clean up and get myself together so I wouldn't embarrass myself looking like I just got beat up and upset when we walked out of the restroom. At that moment I didn't have a better pal than Jack, and I bet he was a great firefighter because it was in him at a young age. I enjoyed knowing the Ensley family and my heart and prayers go out to all of you. As my twin brother wrote, I wish we could have been in touch these past many years, but always know how much Jack and the Ensleys meant to us and there has always been and always will be a spot in my heart for Jack Ensley and the Ensley family.

I am so sorry to hear of Jack's passing. I worked for Jack and Beni at the golf course many years ago. Both Jack and Beni were great to work for and I enjoyed my years at the golf course. I moved North of Indy to Westfield several years ago, but recently passed by 56th and Georgetown and still looked for the "Ensleys". One of my favorite memories of Jack was the day he and a buddy took a flat bed trailer and bought an Indy car. They didn"t make the race, but I am sure they had fun trying. My condolences go out to Marcia, Beni and all of the family.

Jack was my best pal as a youngster and we started our friendship at in the first grade at Orchard School in Indianapolis. He was big, sweet natured, funny and full of life. A fellow like that is going to get my attention and, of course, we became friends. I remember many adventures with Jack and they always bring a smile to my face. One, in particular, I will share today. In the fourth grade I was given a "Soap Box Derby" car to set up for a Cub Scout event. It was basically a piece of wood with a seat cut out and shaped like a front engine roadster. Well, when I brought it to school the next day to fix up in Fred Lorenze's shop class I asked Jack to help me by being my "cheif mechanic." He was as excited about the project as I was. His first order to me was to make it light as possible because that is how the cars that race at the Indianapolis 500 are ste up. No weights!!! We stream lined the car on this big saw and painted it up. That was so much fun and the car looked great. However, on the night of the "Derby" our car came in last. We discovered that the real race cars are light but you need little lead weights on the little wood ones. I didn't care and I wouldn't have traded my cheif mechanic for anyone. One time, a few years after we moved from Indianapolis to Memphis, I tagged along with my father on one of his business trips and called on Jack while I was in town. We were now in high school and that bond hadn't changed one bit. He and his sisters were in the Gordon Pipers and my twin, Frank and I had a blast visiting with them and seeing their mom and dad. I am sorry at Jack's passing and I wish that I could have seen him later in life, but that is how life is. However, Jack was a great friend to have as a youngster to start life with and I am so very glad that he was there.
