I cannot begin to express the shock I had when I learned of Mr Schatzmans passing. Having been gone from AAA for several years I was not aware until recently. What I would like to say to his family is Thank you. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful person with others, He was more than a boss he was a friend and like a father to me. Strong and firm yet fair. he was a part of so many memorable times in my life, Like when I found out I was going to be a father by adopting two boys he was the first person I told at AAA, then he and his wife sent the boys a giant bucket of lego,s the look on thier faces was priceless, then when my wife Perri passed away he was there. and I know he did this for many people but he always made you feel like it was just for you. I am not ashamed to say I loved this man and I am deeply saddened by his passing. If there was ever a man that deserved to hear the father say well done my good and faithful servant it was Ed Schatzman. I look forward to the day when I pass through those same pearly gates and see Ed Schatzman standing there and saying Haale where have you been. Rest in Peace my friend. And again to his wife and boys thank you so much for sharing him with the resst of us.

Dad is the greatest man I've ever known. He worked so hard all the time. He was always charging off to aid someone in need. He worked constantly for the betterment of all around him. I am glad that I got to know him in the last few years as more than just the authority figure to rebel against and as the man that everyone has so much respect for. I truly hope to one day be able to look at myself and accomplish half of what he did. I was unaware of just how many lives my Dad has touched until I saw the funeral. The mere sight of people being bussed in to see Dad's funeral brought me to tears. The full realization of what he accomplished in his lifetime never struck so hard. I have known a great man all my life but failed to see the full measure of his greatness until the flame of his life was gone. I am proud to know him, and proud to be his son. I wish you the best Dad.

Ed was such a wonderful man and I was so fortunate to have had a chance to have gotten to know him over the past few years. He and his entire family have always treated me as family, even before his son Peter and I got engaged, which has meant the world to me. I would have loved to have had Ed as a father in-law, as I loved him like a father. I am so blessed to become a part of such a loving and wonderful family and bear the last name Schatzman. I have many warm and even some humorous memories of Ed and I think about them and smile. Ed was loved by so many and he will be in our hearts forever.

Dear Stefanie, Robert, Peter, Jaeden and Entire Family, We send our heartfelt sympathy at this time of sorrow. Back in the dark ages (1973) when I joined the Motor Club Ed and I were the "kids" on the block. Ed is the perfect example of how hard work, devotion to your faith, family, career and your principles will "fast track" you to the top. When I chose to move on in my career in the late 80's I have kept the hand written note from Ed encouraging me to follow my heart and I would attain my goals and I am pleased to say I attained those goals. Although Ed had a very serious and focused side he had a tremendous sense of humor. One never knew when it would strike. Once the senior vice president of travel was interviewing the president of a steamship line. I was talking to his secretary and Ed came up behind me and "nudged" me with his hip and propelled me over the secretary's desk. The senior vp looked up and said "boys will be boys". When I regained my composure Ed was nowhere to been seen. We will miss you my Friend ... we know you are at PEACE.

During my 30 years with AAA, we all took pride in Ed's many accomplishments, both at AAA and within the community. After the branch moved to the current Plaza location, I didn't see Ed on a regular basis, but when I did, he always had kind words, a big smile and a funny story. His handwritten notes still appeared, be they congratulatory or words of sympathy. We are all blessed to have known Ed Schatzman. My sincere condolences to Stefanie and family.

I consider myself very fortunate to have worked under Ed for the past 21 years. Through Ed, I learned how to treat people and how to earn respect. The lessons I learned from observing Ed were invaluable. Ed taught me, without knowing it. And on the few occasions when out of town travel brought us together in a hotel lounge, enjoying a glass (okay, maybe a bottle....or two) of Merlot together, I got to see the other side of Ed too. He was a wonderful human being and I will continue to follow his lead, which was very simply, doing the right thing and treating others as we would like to be treated. Easier said then done, but he did it. He taught it. He lived it. Because of Ed, I am a better leader and a better man. Thank you, Ed. You will never be forgotten.

ACS Retiree Bob Russell had the utmost respect and admiration for his former boss. He and Mr. Schatzman began each day with a humorous greeting, joke or story. Each delighted on topping the other one. Relaying one humorous story to his family as a farewell tribute to Ed's ever present appreciation for humor in the workplace. The following day after policy dictated the shaving of facial hair, clean shaven Ed greeted Bob at the door with " Don't say a word" and Bob replied "Sir, I don't even know who you are." Stefanie, Robert, Peter and Jaeden, please accept my deepest condolences. I’ve never met another person in this world like Mr. Schatzman. While most of us try to treat each other the right way, Mr. Schatzman just did it, every day of his life. I’ve worked for AAA for 26 yrs now, and early in my career, I worked for Bill Powell and Ed Schatzman. They took me under their wing, mentored me and basically “raised” me. When Bill passed away, Mr. Schatzman stayed strong for the rest of us, even though losing Bill was hard on him. After I moved to Tampa headquarters, he still kept tabs on me. Like so many of us, I looked forward to receiving my annual anniversary note and I still have all of them. He was always there with a kind word and a smile. I will miss him so much. His guidance and friendship, his selflessness and unconditional love for his fellow human being are life lessons that I will carry with me always.

What a supreme testament to the life of a man, to be loved and honored by so many people for so many years! To think that he never stopped being the same wonderful and caring man I remember even back in the early days of AAA when I worked in the Art Department. What a mark he has made in this world in the hearts of every scout he mentored and every employee he encouraged. I remember those personalized notes of encouragement because I saved every one of mine. He was a prince among men and his humor was priceless. Stef, we have shared so much together, even though we don't get to see each other as much anymore, my heart is just broken for you and Robert, Peter and Jaeden. He will be missed by everyone he knew. There is only one comfort - that he is with God - but he has left his mark and his memory in our hearts and in our minds for a very long time. I was in the hospital several times over the years and he NEVER failed to call me: I knew I could count on him. The AAA World (and the world in general) has lost a truly great man. My prayers are with his family.

I met Ed Schatzman over 20 years ago when I began work at the local council of the Boy Scouts of America. Working with him over the years as he served on the executive board and gave such great leadership to the Eagle Scout program, it didn't take me long to figure out what a very special human being he was. I am sure I have never met a finer man or one who touched the lives of so many people in such a positive and significant way. We are all saddened by the profound loss of this truly wonderful man, but we are also better human beings for having known Ed Schatzman and being his friend.

Words cannot convey my sense of shock and sorrow since learning of Ed's death. Ed was a friend to me and to many others - and this in itself is a great legacy. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Stephanie, and your family, as you face this very difficult chapter in your lives. May I offer the comfort of words that came to my mind as I pondered your loss: Rev. 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. God bless.

Ed was the most sincerely caring, kind and honorable person that I have ever had the privilege to know. When my son was tragically injured in 2005, Ed made sure that I knew he was thinking and praying for my sons recovery. He sent dozens of handwritten notes of encouragement for months while my son was hospitalized and even years afterwards. Amazingly, he had never even met my son but wanted him to know he cared. I have never forgotten his kindness and words of encouragement. He was an angel on earth and an example to us all. We will miss him more than words can ever say. My deepest sympathies to his beautiful family.

It was an honor and privellage to work for and know Ed Schatzman. Until recently, I would only see him at fleet functions. It was obvious he truly cared about people, both the people we serviced and the people who made it happen as well as everyone else. At these functions he was always making sure everyones needs were taken care of, not something you see in your typical executive. He was always offering words of encourgement and guidance, and although most of the time we all had a hard time reading his writting, when a letter came from the desk of Mr. Schatzman in his own handwritting it was a big deal to both the technician and the fleet that tech representented. I know because I was the of a recepient of a couple of those letters. I will always remember him as a gentle giant who was very soft spoken caring and kind.To the family I can only say thank you so much for sharing him with all of us because he touched everyone of us in a very specail way and because of your generousity we all have fond memories and are better off today having know him .Our thoughts and prayers are with you. I had the honor of knowing Ed for over twenty five years. He was on my list of perhaps ten people I have met in my life time who's word was their bond. He always told me to call him day or night if I ever needed anything and while some may use that statement, I knew that he truly meant it. If Ed had a fault it would have been that he truly cared. While his job was very demanding, he would always take time to shake hands with and say hi to every employee each time he visited our area. Ed had a wonderful sense of humor and would always have some "special recognition" or plaque to present some of his team at management meetings. His style of management created tremendous staff loyalty, plus made it a fun environment in which to work. He was a great American who loved his country, his God and truly "practiced what he preached". It is said that anyone can be be replaced, but Ed is the exception to that. The thoughts and prayers of the Brannon family go out to the Schatzman family as well as to the people who's life Ed touched. He will be missed by everyone. God bless you Ed, you will never be forgotten.

Anyone who knew Ed was aware of his solid Christian faith. His kind and encouraging words testified to this but it was by his actions that Ed’s faith shouted its reality. In the Scriptures we are told that people will know we are Christians by how well we love one another. We are also told that we are to love others as Jesus loves us. Now I am not implying that Ed was a Saint. None of us are. What I am saying very clearly though is that Ed is an example to us all on how to demonstrate true Christian love. How many times did Ed put his own personal needs aside to address, or better yet, minister to ours? How much time did he invest in mentoring us? Caring for us? Caring for our families? I can still hear his voice in my head saying; “Ruud, get out of here and go coach Erik’s baseball team, see Jessica’s play or take Janet out to that dinner you promised.” And this love was demonstrated in large scale as well. How many Boy Scouts were blessed because of Ed? How about the youth served by the Police Athletic League? How about the elderly at the senior center on bingo night or how about all those people who benefited by the many gallons of his donated blood? And of course we all knew how much Ed loved his family…. Those of us that spent any time with this man knew all about how he adored his bride Stefanie, how proud he was of his boys Robert, Peter and Jaeden and how much his relationship and the time spent with his brother Rick meant to him. And even through the joking, we all knew how important his mother in law was to him. I learned a lot about how to be a Leader from Ed. He taught me how to communicate, motivate and delegate more effectively along with many other work related lessons. All of this however pales in comparison to what Ed taught me about how to "love one another" and I will do my best to live up to his example in this area. The Scriptures also tell us that as Christians, we will be rewarded in heaven for the good fruits we produced while on this earth. I have no doubt that just a couple of days ago Ed heard Jesus say, “Well done my good and faithful servant, come and share my joy.” Thank you for loving me Ed. I loved you too, very much.
