Uncle Sedley was very special to me and I will always remember our little code that we exchanged whenever I saw him. He would tell me to "say it?" and I would answer " I love you". He had a twinkle in his eye and the world is a duller place without his presence. Even though he left JA when I was 16 and I only saw him about half a dozen times after that, I always knew that his love for me was there no matter what. I loved him as much as my own father and I will always remember him. God bless him.

I will miss Grandpa dearly. I wished that I lived closer so that I could spend more time with him. But from the time that we did have together I could tell that he cared a great deal for everyone he came across. I am so thankful that I was able to visit last September and see Grandpa. I know that he is looking over me and I will do my best to make him proud as I embark on fatherhood. God bless you Grandpa

Uncle Sedley I too have many fond memories, growing up, of Dad telling us that we could come with him over to Uncle Sedley and Aunt Joan's...only if we promised that we would be ready to leave when he was. Dad knew we were never going to be ready when he was , and we always promised we would. A good time was always had by all. I remember Uncle Sedley giving me my first job, (at Dad's request) as a surveyor's helper, at a time when I really would have preferred to stay home, just to make sure that no one stole the house. I remember going out in the field, and helping to take measurements, and also thinking that this is really hard work. How does he do this every day? Mostly though, I thank him for the wisdom knowledge and understanding shared with me. Lis and I greatly thank him for regulary checking in on her, when she first moved back to Jamaica, and making her truly feel like a member of the McLaughlin clan. We are both richer people, for the time spent with him. We will miss him, his wit and his positivity, but know that he will be in the good company of all of his and our families that have preceded him. Sorry we cannot be there on Friday and Saturday but our thoughts and prayers are with him, Aunt Joan and family. Lots of love Peter and Lis

Sedley, you gave us the greatest gift last Wednesday when we met again after thirty years apart, you and Joan in Texas, David and me in NY state, two Jamaican families who ventured away in 1980. You turned time inside out and took us into a place of love, honour, and friendship where time has no hold at all - a place where wit and laughter live unending. As it was in the beginning, is it now and ever shall be: world without end, Amen.

Dear Uncle Sedley, My life is filled with memories of you. One particular favorite was a day when you were with Dad and I at Manor Park Pharmacy and I was being a brat because I wanted something. You took me outside and lovingly talked to me about not doing that to my dad! I have NEVER forgotten that - the lesson and the love for both Dad and I with which it was delivered. To have made such an impact on so many lives speaks to how loved you were and still are! I will miss you so much but take joy in knowing that I was able to have your love and guidance in my life, in the special relationship you always had with my Dad and in knowing that you guys are together this day, looking out for all of us, while joking around together. I love you Uncle Sedley!!! Gone but never forgotten...

Uncle Sedley, As a child, I used to come by your house so often! Of all my other relatives, I think your house was the one I visited the most, either with my whole family or on what we now call play dates with John, or when Dad would just drop by for a quick visit. When I went to high school, sometimes you would pick me up from school as well. Those were some of my favourite days! You were always so full of fun, you were a joy to be around. Those were special times. I have so many memories of you and your family from back then. Really good memories! Believe me when I say that I will treasure them. We love you and will miss you, Uncle Sedley. Walk good. Kevin, Shawna and Dylan

Sedley, you will be missed greatly. You and Joan were like parents to me when I moved to Texas in 1985 and you were always there for me. I could always call you in any emergency. I will always treasure the memories of meeting you, Joan, Eily and Roy at Northpark for lunch on Saturdays, Sunday dinner at Eagle Pass with Joan's roast beef and rice and peas, or just stopping by for the famous 'cup of tea'. You were always in rare form with your sense of humor. I am so grateful that Dave, Mom and I got to visit with you last September and October. Sedley - rest in peace until we meet again.

Goodbye Dad. Thank you for everything. You taught me the importance of honesty, fairness, self-sacrifice and keeping a sense of humor about life. I will treasure my memories of your childhood lullabies and stories, land survey excursions, prep school commutes, and your sound, empathetic advice throughout the years. I rarely said it out loud when you were here Dad, but I love you. I miss you so much already.

Dad, I feel fortunate to have had the chance to say many of the things I wanted to say while you were still here, which includes things like saying thank you for how you treated us, thank you for passing on the legacy of love and laughter that we have, and thank you for always putting our needs ahead of your own. Which in fact makes me wonder: Did you really prefer the end-slices from the loaf of bread, the piece of toast that got burnt, and the piece of chicken or beef that had the bones in them? We love you. We miss you. Thanks for always letting us have the best pieces.
