Obituary of Robert John Mahon

Mahon, Robert John (Bob), 85, was born April 3rd 1925 and died December 31, 2010. Born in Erie, PA Bob attended East High School where he played varsity football. Following his graduation he joined the Army Air Corp receiving an honorable discharge. He went on to attend Western Reserve University on a football scholarship then transferred to Gannon College in Erie, PA where he earned his Bachelor’s degree. He earned a Masters degree from the University of Buffalo and completed his course work for his advanced degree at the University of Maryland and Howard University in Washington, DC. While residing in Silver Spring, MD he worked as an officer in the Public Health Service assigned to the National Institute of Mental Health, retiring after 25 years of service rising to the rank of full Colonel. He retired to Land O’ Lakes, FL where he lived with his surviving wife of 65 years Shirley Ann Mahon (nee Davis), of Erie, PA. While living in their beautiful home on the lake, Bob enjoyed playing tennis and dancing, loved the frequent visits from his two surviving brothers, eight children, thirteen grand children and two great-grand children, as well as his many friends and other relatives. In his final years of battling Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s he was tended to selflessly by his youngest son Brian Mahon and youngest daughter, Erin Breesman, both of Land O’ Lakes, FL. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held Sunday, January 23, 2011 at 4 pm at the Lake Padgett Estates Clubhouse, 4533 Savannah Drive, Land O’ Lakes, FL, 34639.
