I was looking at the Loyless website for info on the Family Rememberance night tonight, & came across Bobby's guest book. We lost our Dad, Dennis Ulmer in August. Our family was unaware of Bobby's passing, and I know my parents considered him a friend. His was a handsome, kind and familiar face that I would see at church each week. True Christlike kindness is how I will always remember him. He didn't know me but had seen me in passing at church. Being a single parent was rough and at times very discouraging. When my car broke down and I didn't have any money to fix it, I couldn't even afford to have it towed anywhere, the Lord sent Bobby, his faithful servant, to help. He had my car towed and fixed it for free. Where I was once worried how I would get to work, Bobby's kindness and compassion to a stranger kept me from missing even one day of work. Who does that? Who helps a stranger when it is not only inconvenient for them but also costly, out their own pocket? Bobby Smith showed God's love in practical ways to hurting and lost people. He was an extension of God's hands and feet, a wonderful man. What a blessing he was to me and others. I'm forever grateful to him. Very, very, very sorry for your loss Smith family, he will be missed. I can't help but think on Nov. 20, 2010.....Jesus got up and danced and shouted with joy "Bobby's coming home! Bobby's coming home!"

The measure of a man is not by the material things he owns or the money he has , but by the lives he has touched, Bobby was a simple man with simple desires but displayed the most complex emotion, that of compassion, he didnt care who you were or what you did, if you need help he would do it, I know this as fact, the roof over my head, the food in my mouth, the cars to drive and the money in my pocket where the material things he gave when i needed it, but the thing that will stay with me forever are the times he listened and the advice he gave when i needed it the most...I am sad that he is gone but grateful he was a part of my life, and im sure that his legacy will carry on in others...My heart goes out to his family,, Judy, BJ Clarissa, and Beth The Angel Earned his wings, fly high Bobby Smith, Fly high and goodbye.........

Bobby and Family, my deepest sympathy for your loss. As you have spoken a bit of your father and his illness, it is clear he has been such an important and valued part of your life. As William Penn said of his Quaker Friends, "Death is but crossing the World, as Friends do the Seas, we live in one another still." I pray you find some peace and comfort in the future as you find yourself performing an act of kindness or simply speaking an encouraging word to someone and realizing that it was your father who taught you so. At that moment you might find yourself smiling inside in gratitude for his having helped you be a better steward of goodness. Peace be with you. your IBM colleague, Ron Runyan
