Obituary of Dorothy Lee Brosch

BROSCH, Dorothy Lee, “Dottie”, 85 of Wesley Chapel, FL passed away Friday, January 22, 2010. She had been a fourth generation lifelong Florida resident, the youngest of eleven children born to Ethel and Waldo Gilley of Williston, FL. Dottie served others her whole life with a caring, vivacious, inspirational spirit. In her role as the Director of the Sulfur Springs Recreation Center in Tampa, she contributed to the advancement of wheelchair basketball. She inspired Bob Baker, a young quadriplegic to develop a successful insurance agency and in her 80’s, she published an inspirational book on his life, titled The Dear Frances Letter. She was named Woman of the Year in 1956. She served in her role as Activities Director of the Mount Dora Nursing Center with creativity and enthusiasm creating circuses for the resident, taking them on fishing trips and facilitating pen pal programs for the seniors with young students. She was a doting grandmother, avid gardener and great cook. Many times she nursed sick loved ones with her gift of mercy. She was an accomplished award winning story teller who knew how to captivate her audiences. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray and her two granddaughters, Nikki and Georgia. She is survived by her two sons, Glenn and his wife, Lynette of Sorrento, FL and Gary and his wife, Barbara of Tampa, FL; three sisters, Marie Meeks of Elsey , FL, Sarah Schwencke of Orlando, FL and Alice Mae Bryan of Santa Barbara, CA; three granddaughters, Amy, Jessie and Bri and many cousins, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. James United Methodist Church Missions, 16202 Bruce B. Downs Blvd, Tampa, FL 33647. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on January 30th at the First United Methodist Church in Williston, FL.
