It was a pleasure to get to know Flip in his last few months. He was a great man, who loved his family dearly. He spoke very highly of you all. He will be missed very much. May God bless you all. To Doug and family I am sorry for your loss, and hope the best for all of you.

Pipa, I'm going to miss you so much. The past few years spending time with you have been priceless, my only regret is that i wish i spent more time with you. Ever since I was little you spoiled me as much as you can and i wish i could give you one more hug to show my appreciation. I wish I could talk with you one more time about your experiences in the military and who's winning in college football, because you know I never keep up with those things. I will make sure to continue with my studies so I can make you proud, even while you're up in heaven. I will always love you Pipa. Mitch

Psa 116:15 (HNV) "Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his holy ones." Doug, This is our prayer, that Flip had called upon the Lord and made peace with G_d, as evidenced by that joy you saw on his face just before he passed.

My memories of Uncled Flip include when I was a teenager and our family would visit in Miami. Flip was kind, friendly, warm and always looking after and taking care of Frimi. After Frimi and Flip moved to Florida I learned his love for books, history, and the torah. Flip loved to be surrounded by family. We are all missing Flip and thinking of everyone touched by this loss. Bonnie

My memory of Flip will be remembering him in earlier days when he would breeze in wearing his uniform always with a smile and cheer. He called me Es .When I was dateless once in my college days he took me to a play at the U of Miami. He was my uncle and I loved him. Always caring and giving are words that go with who he was. I will miss him.

How great to see that wonderful photo of Flip! Yes, it's been at least 40 years... being the across the street neighbor ( and taking advantage of that swimming pool as often as possible). I have many fond and fun memories of making jewelry with Flip and Frimmy for the Hidden Grok. they were definately the most hip parents of the neighborhood. many blessings to Flip on his journey home to Spirit, may Godspeed...and much love and condolances to the family in their huge loss of such a wonderful man. thanks for the memories...

I met Flip and his family 40 years ago when they moved in across the street from me in St. Louis. His son Doug remains my very best friend today. Flip always greeted me with a smile of welcome and treated me like family, even when I turned his swimming pool green. I fondly remember Flip playing those poker games at the kitchen table, lovingly tending to his family, and readying the pool area for all day fun. He must be in Frimmie's arms now. I will miss him.

The only things I can say when I think of my grandpa was that he was the most self-less grandfather I could ever had. He would go out of his way almost everytime you asked him to help you with something, he would eat almost everything you cook (except left-overs) and he would let me sneak an ice-cream snickers bar every now and then. I couldn't ask for anything more. I love him very much and I wont ever forget all the memories we all shared.

Dear Doug, Karen and family On behalf of my family I would like to extend our most sincere condolences. Doug, your dad was a remarkable guy and way ahead of time in many ways. (The Hidden Grok) How cool was that! He was great fun to talk to and always nice to me and your buddies. Your dad (and your mom) were always glad to see us and make us feel welcome. I know you will miss him. We are all thinking about you. (I had no idea he was a CANE. Of course we are CANES too)

Although I never knew James Phelps, I had the privilege of working with his son Doug in getting benefits established with the Veterans' Administration. It has been an honor to serve both, and I wish the entire family peace and comfort in this difficult time. I believe Lt Col Phelps is back to doing what he loves most. "Oh, that I had wings like a dove, for then would I fly away, and be at rest."— Psalms 55:6
