Obituary of Joseph Edward Pahl

PAHL, Joseph Edward, 86, of Round Top, NY formerly of Long Island City and Centereach, NY went home to be with the Lord on February 14, 2009. During WWII, Joe served in the Merchant Marines. After the war, he worked for the Pennsylvania Rail Road and Fortunoffs. Joe was a former Trustee in the Catskill Elks Lodge 1341 and was voted Elk of the Year. He chaired the Veterans committee for the American Legion Post 983. Joe will always be admired for his work ethic and his desire to help others. He will be missed by all of those who loved and respected him. He loved helping people and always worked diligently to provide for his family. In his early years, he was very active in the Boy Scouts and was a champion for Veteran rights. As a volunteer for the Elks and American Legion, he spent many hours visiting the veterans in various nursing homes. He recently received a special award from President Bush for his volunteer service to veterans. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary; three children, Thomas, Joseph and Geraldine Pahl-Solan; brother, John; nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and many friends. A celebration of Joe’s life will be announced in the spring.
