Obituary of Suresh Singh

Singh, Suresh “Andrew”, 46, born March 16, 1962, of Land O’ Lakes, FL passed away Thursday, November 20, 2008. He hailed from Enterprise, Guyana. He moved to Richmond Hill New York in 1982 and took residency in Florida in 2004. Suresh was an avid cricketer and a sports organizer. He was captain of the under sixteen school cricket on the East Coast of Demerara of Guyana. He played for county cricket and at the national level. He was an all-rounder; an opening batsman and a specialty off-spin bowler. He was a member of the Enterprise Cricket team and also a member of the Gandhi Youth Organization. In the US he was founder and captain of the Royales Sports Club and played in the Bronx Cricket League and later the Eastern American Cricket League in Queens New York. He represented his team at the interleague games. In 1982 he also represented the United States cricket team at the national level at games played in Barbados. He also represented Manufactures Hanover Trust and later Chase Manhattan Bank where he was employed. He was also member of the numerous cricket softball teams at various times. As a sports organizer he is credited for establishing a soccer team and helped build a youth club in his community in Enterprise Guyana. He loved the game of domino and participated in many competitions. He was a patient organizer and spent invaluable time training the youths building their confidence and giving them the discipline, techniques and skills to become professional cricketers. He was employed in the Banking industry for 22 years and in Florida worked for Bank of America and later Met Life as a supervisor at the time of his ill-fated sickness with cancer. He is the son of the belated Dhanraj and Esardai Singh. He is survived by his wife of 28 years Vijaiwantie “Babso” Singh; sons Michael and Ian Singh, Daughter in Law Caren Singh and grandson Aiden Singh; brothers Rudolph and Mikey; sisters Shirley, Jean, Desiree, and Guitri. A memorial service will be held at Loyless Funeral Home on Sunday, November 23 at 2:00pm.
