Obituary of William Benson Godbey

GODBEY, William Benson, age 76, of Tampa Florida, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2008. He was born To Charles A Godby & Viola Pearl (Persinger) Godby on February 22, 1932 in Eccles, West Virginia. At a young age, while living at Oak Hill West Virginia, he enlisted into the US Army, choosing this service as his career. He was a decorated Army Soldier and Veteran who served during the Korea and Vietnam wars. He retired after 20 years service as a Chief Warrant Officer. His follow-on career involved Restaurant Management, and after final retirement, moved to Florida in 1987. He loved the Lord and enjoyed music; even having a radio show and was known as “Bashful Billy”. He was devoted to the service of The Lord and volunteered to serve aboard a mission ship out of L.A. helping bring relief to the needy. He is survived by Two sons; Ben and his wife Karen of Tallahassee, FL, and Joseph and his wife Trish of Tampa, FL; Two daughters, Debi and Bob Long of Vass, NC, and, Margo Tovar of Winston Salem, NC; He has13 grandchildren, Heather, Kathy, Adam, Eddie, Mellissa, Stephany, Leeah (preceded in death), Donna Jo, Michael, Johnathan, Lisa, Lee, and Jesse and 6 great grandchildren. His siblings are: Four brothers, Charles & Lillian of Dublin Georgia, Carl & Barbara of Newark Delaware, Lawrence Ayden of Beaverton Oregon and Ronald Leonard of San Carlos California; and Two sisters, Freda & Ed Daly of Ceres California, and Carolyn Sue (Suzie) of Mid West City Oklahoma. A Veteran' Memorial Honor Guard and Burial Service will take place at High Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery, located at 1435 Main Street, Oak Hill West Virginia on Tuesday, November 11th at 2:00 p.m. hn glover death datepsychology and lung cancer
