Obituary of John A. McKinney

McKINNEY, John A. Jr., 85, beloved husband of 57 years to Marjorie (Hunter) McKinney passed away Thursday, January 24, 2008. A native of Winter Haven, FL, he moved to Land O’ Lakes in 2003. Following graduation from Winter Haven High School, Mr. McKinney enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific theatres during World War II. He retired from the U.S. Post Office after 27 years of service as a mail carrier. He was a member of the Idlewild Baptist Church, Lutz, FL, a member of the Lake Wales, FL, Elk Lodge and a lifetime member of the American Legion, Post 8. He served as a member of the board of directors for Dolphin Beach Club, Daytona Shores, FL for 15 years. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie H. McKinney; sons, John A. McKinney III of Titusville, FL and Jimmy McKinney and wife Denese of Land O’ Lakes; daughter, Janet McKinney of Nashville, TN; grandsons, Nicholas A. McKinney and Jeffrey S. David both of Land O’ Lakes and sister, Elizabeth Mykitka of Lake Worth, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the The American Heart Society or Pasco Hernando Hospice. A graveside service will be held at Florida National Cemetery on Tuesday, at 2:00 pm.
