Obituary of Iris Nereida Ruiz

RUIZ (Graxirena), Iris Nereida, 73, of Land O’Lakes, Florida passed away on January 17, 2019. She was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico and moved to the Freemont area of the Bronx, New York in 1962. She briefly attended Monroe High School and then attended the school of business in Manhattan where she studied accounting, business and IBM machines. Upon completion and earning her certification, she began working as a Typist for the NYS Department of Banking. In 1969, she married David Ruiz and in November of 1970, they welcomed their only daughter, Amy. Upon retiring from NYS Banking Department in 1984, she moved her family to Clifton, New Jersey and began her career with JP Morgan Headquarters in NYC, which she eventually retired from in 2002. She and her husband fulfilled their retirement dream by moving to Land O’Lakes, Florida in 2003 and to occupy her spare time, she began working for Walmart in Land O’Lakes as a part time cashier. Iris was Catholic in faith, a two-time survivor of breast cancer, and a survivor of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center. She loved music, the ocean, knitting, and sewing. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and her grandchildren, all of whom she absolutely adored. Iris is preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years, David Ruiz. She is survived by her daughter, Amy V. Ruiz Miranda and her husband, Anthony R. Miranda; sons, David Ruiz Jr, and Michael Ruiz; sister, Elsa Graxirena Rivera; and her grandchildren, Anthony Thomas Miranda, Anthony Ramon Miranda, Michael Anthony Miranda, and David Anthony Ruiz.
