Obituary of Donald Philip Bascome

BASCOME, Donald “Don” Philip of Tampa, Florida, passed away November 27, 2018. He was born and raised in Tampa, Florida and was the only child to parents Philip and Mary Bascome. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout. In 1952, Don graduated from Hillsborough High School. He proudly served in the United States Coast Guard and was stationed at the lighthouse on Sombrero in Key West. During his younger years, he loved to fish. Don retired from Teco in 1989 after working for them for 33 years. He enjoyed researching and reading about history and watching the history channel. He loved the march music of John Phillip Sousa and lighthouses. Don enjoyed life and loved working with his hands building things like remote control airplanes, and fishing lures and doing woodworking. He tinkered with and refurbished old cars. Don is preceded in death by his daughter Karen Stanley. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ann; daughter Kathy Metcalf and her husband Mike; four grandchildren, Lauren Price and her husband Jeff, Jennifer Sanchez and her husband Dan, Doug Metcalf and his wife Erin, and Tyler Metcalf and his wife Erica; six great-grandchildren, Landon Price, Ava Metcalf, Emerson Metcalf, Harper Metcalf, Claire Price, and Daniel Sanchez. The family will hold a private service. Interment will take place at Florida National Cemetery. Words of comfort may be expressed for Donald’s family by clicking “Share a Memory.”
