Nancy was my big sister and I will miss her for the rest of my life. She was the most vibrant one of all of us. She was beautiful and fun and funny and sometimes wacky – and that is what made her such a joy. I love that everyone remembers her as “the crazy one”. It was a wonderful kind of crazy.
Being the first-born, Nancy was a hard act to follow. Even though there were many jokes about her not wanting to have any more siblings, the best gift our parents gave was each other. And though all of us siblings lived in various parts of the county, our tribe of five was strong. We are distant but close; we are different but similar. And let me tell you, no one was ever more entertained by us than us.
And so now … we are a tribe of four. Some color has gone out of our lives. We will love you forever, Nancy.

You can't help but smile when you think about Nancy. If she didn't start the party (which she usually did!), she was always the life of it. Endlessly generous, with her door open to friends and family whenever they needed it. Unmistakeable laugh.
From vacations to Disney World and the beach when I was 5 or 6 to a week in Beech Mountain where she had Ali and I sign up for all the kid activities and social events they had (and I mean ALL, even the fishing contests) to Spring Break my freshman year in college when my friend Trina and I came for a week.
She showed all of us girls what a savvy working woman could look like and was "purpose-driven" before that was even a thing in the business world.
Some of my craziness adventures as a kid were with and because of Nancy, which seems appropriate because who is our family is crazier or more adventurous than her??? As Ralph said, she made the most of every minute leaving "nothing in the tank"...and reminding us that 1) family trumps everything and 2) LAUGH.
We love you, Nancy. Party on...

I knew Aunt Nancy before I met her, because of her reputation as "the craziest one." And in the times I spent with her, she never failed to live up to that...inasmuch as "crazy" meant uniquely full of energy, joy, amazing stories, always looking 20 years younger, overall bad-assedness, and love for her family. I'm happy and lucky to be part of that family, and to have called her my aunt. Hugs to Nancy and all the Tiz's and Gilligans.

Nancy was the only person who knew me longer than I’ve known myself. She was my big sister, the oldest of 5, and was born for that role. Even in death, “A sister is a little bit of childhood that can never be lost.” Nancy and I always shared a bedroom when we were growing up, and there were lots of giggles with the lights out. With parental grooming, Nancy learned at a young age the importance of a strong family bond. She was perfectly suited for the role and earnestly strengthened the qualities required to safely lead the rest of us through life’s journeys. Nancy was dependable, energetic, organized and smart. She developed confidence, independence and strength. With experience gained, she became a bold trail blazer for all of us to follow. And there was always laughter and fun. We all learned that there truly is humor in every situation, and we almost always found it. Nancy had a vibrant personality, was a bon vivant and loved almost every bit of life. She was an entertainer and her glass was always overflowing. Nancy was a devoted mother through thick and thin, and cherished Scott & Tim. I think this quote captures the essence of my big sister. “Life is but a moment, but yours shows how powerful a moment can be.” I love you Nancy and will miss you. The universe has a hole in it.
Love from your first little sister,
Linda

Nancy was an amazing human being and lived a life full of adventures.
Nancy has seen more combat than most military service veterans.
She has had a box cutter held to her throat in an airline high-jacking,
She has been in the middle of a machine gun battle in the Caribbean. Police had their AR-15s leaning on the hood and the roof of her taxi cab while battling rebels.
Her plane crashed into a bull while landing in Puerto Rico.
When we were kids our parents were not home and a tornado hit our neighborhood. Linda, Nancy, and I tried to hold the back door closed, but the wind kept blowing it back open.
Nancy ran into the living room and picked up the entire stereo console and carried it into the kitchen and placed it in front of the kitchen door.
She was a high school cheerleader.
She was a college cheerleader at the University of Miami.
Nancy went on a date to see “The Coasters” sing “Charlie Brown” and she ran into the Beatles. She did not know who they were. She joined them at their table and shared a beer with them. She may or may not have danced with Ringo Starr.
She lived an exciting life and did not leave anything in the tank.
I feel so lucky to have had her as my big sister and will miss her and her adventures.
I love you Nancy and thank you for making my life better.

My childhood memories of Aunt Nancy kind of blend together: visiting her house in Florida and her hilarious descriptions of the mansions while we drove around, doing gymnastics in Aunt Linda’s back yard, talking about IBM and her tutoring me in Spanish over the home phone. I remember her love and support through my teen years but I really learned to appreciate Aunt Nancy in my 20s. It was sometime between Ali and Vince and Rae and Cart’s weddings that our relationship grew and I learned about her world adventures and fearlessnesses. She was unapologetically confident, Incredibly generous, and dedicated to many things but above all… to her family. As more and more family events popped up, Nancy and I became roomies, often visited each other and would talk for hours. She made me feel like her favorite niece (I know that’s not true but she had that gift!) and maybe even a little like a daughter because we had so many shared characteristics (no filter, bold, athletic!). I think what I miss most about Aunt Nancy is her laugh. Man she was funny and would laugh at herself or you or both. Or maybe it’s her ability to find the silver lining in every situation. Her forgiveness. Her love. Her kindness. Her humility. Her presence. She supported us through parties, weddings, births, funerals… she was the thread that held the Tiz side of the family together. Thank you Aunt Nancy. Thank you for being such a special part of my life. You are a true shining star.

From 2017, Nancy and I have been inseparable as friends. Every day we checked on each other, laughed hard, danced and partied, shared our deepest feelings and history, gave each other criticism when needed, always spoke the truth (even when it was hard to hear). I cherished her friendship, appreciated her wisdom, and celebrated with her the victories of her family that she lived for. When it was especially hard for her, it was for me as well. I love you Nancy and will forever cherish our memories❤️
