Obituary of Vernon Walter Miller

Vernon Walter Miller, 91 of Land O Lakes, Florida passed away January 24, 2023 in Tampa,FL. after battling many years with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on September 7th, 1931 to Julia Jersa and Joseph Miller. He grew up in Baltimore and graduated from John Hopkins and University of Maryland, where he earned degrees in electrical engineering. He  proudly served in the United States Army as an Instructor Sergeant.  He was a brilliant  and innovative engineer who developed an award  winning electro-mechanical device that revolutionized American missile guidance systems while at Raytheon, and satellite communication systems for companies, including General Electric, Harris Corporation, Magnavox, Bell Labs, and Textron.Vern retired from Raytheon in Huntsville, Alabama in 1999 and then retired to Melbourne, Florida.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife Aurelia Miller.  He is survived by his 6 children, Matthew Miller and significant other Arlene Nosko, David and wife Kathleen Dunn Jacobs, Stephen Miller, Glenn Miller and wife Martha Gill, Paul and wife Lorna Miller, daughter Kathy and husband Phillip Guest; 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.   

In his spare time, Vern loved researching his genealogy and enjoyed working on cars and tinkering in his shop. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Visiting his family out of state at Moosehead Lake in Greenville Maine was one of the things that he enjoyed most.
