Obituary of Gladys Mercedes Blizard

Gladys Mercedes Blizard, 94, of Tampa, Florida, passed away May 11, 2022
surrounded by her loving family. She was born and raised in Aibonito, Puerto
Rico, August 12, 1927. She was the youngest of 3 sisters, Irma and Carmen
who have preceded her in death.
She caught the eye of the love of her life, Alan D. Blizard at a social function
for the Navy in Puerto Rico. Married in 1952, she began her life as a
dedicated Navy wife. She endured both Korean and Vietnam Wars while
raising a young family. In 1968, Gladys and her family of four moved to what
would be her forever home in Tampa, Florida. Gladys and Alan pursued their
dream of opening their own business with their community in mind.
Skateworld opened its doors in 1977 with Gladys as its bookkeeper among
many roles. What Gladys loved more than anything was spending time with
her family and extended family in her Grandchildren and Great-
Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Alan D. Blizard,
daughter, Linda B. Snidle and son-in-law, Ron “Hawk” Snidle. She is survived
by her daughter, Irma Beattie (Dale Beattie), Son, Alan P. Blizard and Son,
Michael Blizard. Grandchilren: Jimmy Tibe, Brandy McGrath (Paul McGrath),
Jacob Snidle (Kaitlyn Snidle), Brooke McCarthy (Ryan) and Afton (Michael).
Great-grandchildren: Augustine (Jimmy), Liam, Nixie, Riley (Brandy), Jace,
Kade, Cora (Jacob) and Miles (Brooke). Gladys will always be known for her
kindness towards anyone she came in contact with. She will be drinking her
strong coffee with cheese and toast with her sisters and dad. She will be
missed.
