Obituary of Lela I. Schwanzl
Lela I. Schwanzl, 85 of Wesley Chapel passed away on April 6, 2022. She was Catholic in faith and a Parishioner of St. Mark Catholic Church the past eleven years. Prior to moving to Florida in 2011 Lela was a long time resident of Westerville Ohio. She sang in the choir at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Westerville for many years, where she continued to remain a member in standing until her death.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Gordon James Schwanzl. She is survived by her two children, Lisa McDermitt and Gregory (Sara) Schwanzl; and five grandchildren : Erin and Megan McDermitt, Zachary, Brandon, and Allison Schwanzl.
She graduated from St. Louis Catholic High school and shortly after graduation she became a bank teller at Custar State Bank in Custar Ohio. She met her husband on a blind date and eventually married in 1959. After a short break when her children were young, Lela continued her career in banking in Westerville, Ohio as an assistant bank manager with Huntington National Bank. She retired from her management position with Huntington Bank only to become a part time assistant with Joe Walker Century 21 reality in retirement. She enjoyed boating, nature and the outdoors, spending time with her family and watching Ohio State basketball and football.
