Willie Williams

Obituary of Willie James Williams

Willie James Williams, known to most as "Sonny" or "James," was born in Cordele, Georgia and moved to Tampa, Florida from Washington, D.C.

Sonny was a wonderful husband and father, and all that knew him loved being in his presence.

Helping others was one of the many attributes that defined who he was. And because he often traveled from Washington, D.C. to St. Petersburg, Florida, he would habitually stop and assist those who had misfortunes in their journey during his travels.

Sonny cherished the time he had with his family. He enjoyed taking trips to see family members and taking his kids and extended family to amusement and recreational parks in the early days. These moments had a lasting impact on many, and those that knew him tried to continue this tradition. Sonny also loved watching college football and would have conversations that captured any audience.

As a Protective Service Police Officer with the United States General Administrative Services Department, Sonny received numerous awards for being an outstanding police officer. However, Vernon Jordan's accommodation stands out the most,  Chairman of the Presidential Transitioning Team during President George Bush Sr., and President William Clinton's transition in 1993. Mr. Jordan stated that he appreciated Sonny's courtesy, efficiency, and dedication to duty while assigned to the transition team."

We will miss Sonny, and we appreciate everything he has done that has influenced our lives.
