Delaine Holsopple

Obituary of Delaine Holsopple

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Delaine Holsopple, our loving and devoted mother and friend to all whose lives she touched, on September 13, 2021.

Although she left us suddenly, we know her transition into heaven was peaceful and without any suffering.

Delaine was born in Waynesboro, Virginia. During school she was a model student, belonging to many clubs and was involved in student government. She went on to become a graduate of the prestigious College of William & Mary achieving her bachelor’s degree in sociology. It was around that time that she met her husband and fell in love. He was active duty in the Army, and together they moved to the state of Alaska to be near the military base where he was stationed. Eventually they relocated to sunny Florida in 1977 where she raised her children and had a long and successful career. In recent years she retired from work in facilities management for national telecommunications corporations. Never one to remain idle, Delaine almost immediately continued on working, selflessly providing companionship to elderly persons in the field of` home healthcare and serving them in the cafeteria of a Veterans nursing home.

Without a doubt, she lived a full and rewarding life centered around generosity. She would research someone’s favorite meals and perfect the recipes; was an amazing cook and maker of desserts. She kept a warm and inviting home always open for her family and friends. She enjoyed the simple beauties in life such as flowers, gardening, and birds. She also had a passion for word puzzles; language, reading, and writing, which contributed to her eloquence and her way with words. She sometimes displayed her talent, on 2 memorable occasions wrote and directed plays for her churches, one of which notably achieved the status of receiving publishing.

A woman of faith, Delaine was a member of Harvester United Methodist Church in Land O’ Lakes, FL. She was committed to her church by a strong conviction to serve the Lord, led adult and youth groups, and was cherished by many.

Above all else she loved her family and instilled in her daughters values that continue to serve them. She was a problem solver…. supportive, wise, understanding, kind, witty, and beautiful. We will all miss her dearly. Her memory will remain forever in our hearts.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 49 years Gary Holsopple; stepdaughter, Patricia Holsopple, daughters Melissa and son in law, David Barile, Sarah Holsopple, and partner Bryttani Lindheim; brothers, Allen (Robin) Hall, John (Jolene) Hall, Pete (Anne) Hall, Rip (Phyllis) Hall and David Hall; sister, Mary (Devon) Hokanson; three grandchildren, Zachary Covert, Rachel Covert, and Sterling Bradford; and three great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
