Dennis Finnk

Obituary of Dennis Michael Finnk

Dennis Michael Finnk of Tampa, Florida passed away on February 10, 2021.   He was a graduate Miami Norland High School. Dennis then went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of South Florida and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of Tampa.  Dennis taught 38 years in Hillsborough County Public Schools.

Dennis loved playing golf, Fantasy Football, and working in his wood workshop.  He was a big fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tampa Bay Lighting, and the Tampa Bay Rays.  He often liked to brag that Kevin Cash, Tampa Bay Rays manager, was in his 4th grade class at Lake Magdalene Elementary.  His passion was being a teacher.  He was proud to be an educator.  He would always say he was “living his dream” every day when he went to work to teach.  He was funny, he loved to laugh, and he loved a good practical joke.

His all-time favorite food was a steak sandwich from the Airport Restaurant in Madison, NC; but his favorite restaurant was a simple small establishment named Bob’s Restaurant in Madison, NC.  His favorite TV show was Gunsmoke; however, nothing trumped the NFL every Sunday and Monday.  He enjoyed listening to 60’s music and Country music.  He loved cruising and he loved to visit the Smoky Mountains of Gatlinburg Tennessee, but his favorite place in the world to visit was Stokesdale, North Carolina.  More than anything in his life he loved being an amazing husband, father, and grandfather.  We will dearly miss his loving spirit, smile, and laughter.  Rest in Peace our beloved Dennis.

He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Finnk; Daughters: Jennifer Fleming and April Finnk-Travelino; sons: Stephen Thornton, Brian Thornton, Kevin Thornton, and Robby Thornton; sister: Cindy Finnk; grandchildren: Alex Fleming and Dominic Travelino.  Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Bertram Finnk and Mother, June Finnk.

Celebration of Life service will take place at Saint James United Methodist in Tampa, Fl.
