Obituary of George Allen Helton

George Allen Helton, 99 of Land O' Lakes formerly Avon Park, Florida came to Florida from Ohio in 1981. He passed away on January 26, 2021. George was born on March 12, 1921, in Oil Springs, KY. He served in the Navy and Army as a Minesweeper in WWII. George was a meat cutter at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. He was a member of the Sebring Church of God for many years. He is preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and two sisters. George is survived by his loving wife of 73 1/2 years, Gladys Helton; his daughter, Darlene Minard of Land O' Lakes; grandsons, Christopher and Robert Minard, two sisters, Christine Moore and Grace Conley and many nieces and nephews. George known to many as "Papaw" will be missed but never forgotten. A visitation will be Monday February 1, 11-noon followed by a service at Noon.  He will be escorted to Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell by the Patriot Guard Riders where military honors will be held.
