Obituary of Dorothy "Dot" Young

Dorothy "Dot" Young, 81 of Land O Lakes, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 10, 2021.  Formerly of Newton Upper Falls, MA, and Bridgton, ME.  Born and raised in Newton, MA, predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Mildred Howely.  She is survived by her husband, Robert ("Bob") of 59 years and five children; Linda and her husband Don DeVore of Wrentham, MA, Kevin and his wife Kate of Madison, NH, Lisa and her husband George McMains of Norfolk, MA, Keith Young and Jennifer Tamagni of Vineland, NJ, Kenny and his wife Jennifer of Framingham, MA. Dot enjoyed six grandchildren and was so proud of each one; DeeDee DeVore, David DeVore, and his wife Jessica, Shaylin and Owen McMains, Lilliana and Nicolette Young.

 

Dot was a graduate of Our Lady's High School and Mount Ida College in Newton, MA.  She retired from the Boston College Health Services in 1994.  Upon retirement, Dot began quilting with the Chickadee Quilt Guild of Bridgton, ME.  She honed her craft with The Feather Princesses Guild of Florida and received various awards for her work.  She was blessed with a quick wit, positive spirit, boundless energy, and a tireless work ethic.  Dot never met a stranger.  Dot was fortunate to travel extensively, visiting Nova Scotia, England, France, Italy, Australia, Kwajalein, Vancouver, British Columbia, and cruises through the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean.  

 

Due to Covid restrictions, services will be private at a later date with a graveside service at St. Mary's Cemetery in Needham, MA.  The family is grateful for the care they received from Gulfside Hospice.
