Obituary of Delfin Riego de Dios

Delfin Alivis Riego de Dios, 88, of Tampa, Florida, passed away Saturday, August 29, 2020.

He was born in 1931 in Cavite City, Philippines. He started college in the Philippines but then decided to enlist in the United States Navy in 1953 as a 2nd class shipman loading artillery on war ships, in addition to being a barber on the battleships during the Vietnam era. He met his wife Dolores in Philadelphia, PA in 1955 and married in 1956. He retired from the Navy in 1973 and worked for the Public Health and VA hospitals in Norfolk, Va.  They lived most of their lives together in Norfolk, Va.  He is survived by his wife, Dolores; his 6 children – Rebecca Moniot, Cynthia Keaton, Christopher Riego de Dios (deceased), Lisa Proffitt, Juanita Riego de Dios, and Victoria Cuevas – Rigeo de Dios and 13 grandchildren and 8.5 great-grandchilden.

Delfin was a member of Knights of Columbus in Norfolk VA and served as an usher for the Catholic Church for many years.

He enjoyed gardening and growing his banana trees, crabbing on the Chesapeake Bay, cooking Pancit, and watching football and boxing.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Friday, September 4th at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Land O Lakes.
