Obituary of Frances Ortiz
Frances Ortiz, 84, of Lutz, Florida passed away May 5, 2020. She was born in Puerto Rico and moved to the US in 1949. She lived in Brooklyn, New York until 1974 and then moved to Florida. She was Catholic in faith and a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. In the 1980’s when she attended Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Tampa, she worked with the youth program where she mentored the sheltered youth and went on missions to include of Biloxi Mississippi, St. Augustine, Florida and many others. She attended a two year program at the Institute of Miami, she was instrumental in supporting the monastery and sponsoring two priests through seminary school. As a member of Our Lady of the Rosary, she was a member of the choir and one of the original members of the charismatic group. She started the first Hispanic mass at Our Lady of the Rosary in her family room in 1996. She enjoyed gardening and sewing, she even made her own wedding dress. Frances was a great cook and enjoyed cooking for her whole family. She was the matriarch of her family, loved children and helping others in need. She is pre deceased by her son, David Ortiz; she is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Augie Ortiz; two sons, Jonathan Ortiz, Dan (Barbara) Ortiz; two brothers, Ray Acevedo, Rene Acevedo; and two sisters, Carmen Mendez and Lucy Hoyos. She was loved and will always be missed.
