I’ve had the privilege of knowing Frank for over 60 yrs, from West Pines play ground, West Tampa Boys Club, Tamp U & as a colleague teacher/coach, & he was just a REAL person. Always positive & fun. As great a coach that he was , he was an even better friend/ man. I will miss lunches, and all the stories that he had. I will cherish the time that we had with him and miss him dearly. Coach P was truly an awesome guy. I know I wasn't alone with all you guys from the 1997-2000 teams(and all the others) and when you heard about him passing, you cried. He loved all his players so much, even(and maybe especially) guys who were role players and I got in contact with him after missing the 25th Anniversary. He was genuinely excited to hear from me even though we hadn't see each other in a long time and I'm sure he was busy, but wanted to grab a beer with some of the other guys. He told me he's bringing me a t-shirt from the 25th Anniversary celebration since I wasn't there. We met at Beef O'Brady's or Primetime, can't remember, and when he sees me he gives that big smile and his handshake where he uses the other hand to slap your shoulder and he says, "Hedgecock! Ya look great! Here's your shirt. You're still a 6XL, right?" And then he starts cracking up and telling me when he looked for shirts that's all they had. I still have that shirt and I never wore it. I have so many stories about Coach P. Even stories Coach P told me that I wasn't even there for. He is a legendary coach and was a legendary person. The world will miss you, Coach! I'm sure your family knows how many people YOU made into a better person with your wit, value of hard work/discipline, and leadership. Hope to see you again, one day.

Frank was baseball royalty in the area.
Player, coach, ambassador for the great game he so greatly loved.
First met him in the late '50s at the West Tampa Boys Club and he was then what he would always be: friendly, liked and respected by all, a baseball guy.
I would have the honor of being called out on strikes by his dad more than a couple of times, knew his younger brother at Plant and later through his great work for the Boys and Girls Clubs. As a local sports writer, I was well aware of Frank's great and long career as coach and mentor to so many.
He will be well remembered, and as a high standard for professionalism with heart.

Permuy and Dorsey Family,
The Obituary Synopsis of our Brother Coach Frank's life pretty much covered everything. My brother Richard and I have been blessed to be childhood friends with the HOF Permuy family. We are very much aware of their faith as Believers, we also know that the word of GOD assures all Believers that the very instant moment we are absent from our body we are present with our LORD.
Check it out that's Great News, 2 Corinthians 5:8, so that promise assures us of no more any kind of pain or suffering,
IT IS FINISHED !!!!!!!
My brother and I will continue to include your family in our daily prayers to provide peace and comfort during this very difficult time.
Peace and Love,
Richard and Danny Someillan

Frank was a great friend and baseball expert at the highest level. When you met with Frank, you could discuss Ybor City, the status of old friends and baseball statistics and strategy. His love and knowledge of baseball was infectious. I joined Frank and several old Ybor City friends on a memorable week long trip to Cuba to play baseball against Cuban Veterans. We had a great time and shared memories of the now famous 1954 trip to Cuba with Coach Espolita from Cuscaden Park. We also met several times at the ArcoIris lunchtime hangout to reminisce about old and current baseball activities. As a baseball coach, he was the best and positively influenced the lives of many high school players in the Tampa area. He was a tough competitor, loyal friend and fought the good fight against the brain cancer.

Rick Chile posted a condolence

My name is Rick Chile. My mother Rose was one of the parents who help start West Tampa Little League. We moved into our house on Lemon St. in 1959. I was 6 years old. The Permuy's lived across the street. On my first day in the new home, there was a neighborhood baseball game going on. Everyone was playing. Big kids, little kids, boys and girls. The infield was Frank's backyard. The outfield was the vacant lot next to my house. Frank sees me outside and motions to come over. He hands me an old catchers mitt and says: "you go play center field." I guess he figured no one would hit a ball that far. Well, someone hit a high fly ball right to me. I was spinning around trying to figure out what to do. The ball came down, bounced off the mitt and hit me in the eye. I went home crying. That was my first coaching experience with Frank. It got a lot better after that. Most Summer days were spent at Frank's house. If Frank was in his back yard, that was the signal to report. Sometimes we didn't play a game; just practiced. Hitting, fielding, all the fundamentals. We would be out there all day. His grandmother, Pilan would yell at us: "come inside. You're going to be sick tomorrow." "Shut up, old woman", Frank would say. Then he told us: "okay, you can go home early today. But tomorrow, hard practice." I didn't mind. I couldn't wait for the next day. I was in Heaven. Because, I was a little kid who got to hang out with the big kids, and I was learning to play America's game. Though I was never good enough to play at the pro or college level, I was a pretty decent second baseman playing for West Tampa Little League and West Tampa Boy's Club. And I have Frank to thank for that.

Glenn Permuy, Danae Permuy and Family,
Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Frank Permuy and a bunch of us go far back before 1954 when we would all gather at Cuscaden Park
for fun and to learn about Baseball as tutored by our Coach Andrew Espolita.
We soon, under the direction of Coach Andrew Espolita, became the first Cuscaden Park All Star Team to go to Cuba to compete against the Cuban baseball players.
Frank was always a great person, a Super Athlete and a Pal to us all.
Frank will forever remain in our Heart!.
GOD BLESS.
Always,
Sandra and John Palmeri

My deepest condolences to the entire Permuy family. I have known Frank for most of my life starting with the West Tampa Boys Club back in the day. Always the friendly face and always sports minded, not to mention a tremendous athlete. Fast forward to the early and mid seventies and Frank coached me at American Legion Post 248 and then my last two years at UT. You cannot help but love and respect him for all he did during his lifetime. The amount of young men he coached and mentored over the years is almost unimaginable. But he did it selflessly and always with positivity. Frank, you will be dearly missed but never forgotten. You have left an indelible mark on countless people, including me. My Dad thought the world of you too. I'm sure he was there to welcome you home. Rick Hernandez

I always enjoyed visiting with Frank & Danae. I enjoyed hearing about his baseball experiences and where he grew up in Ybor City. Frank always kept me on my toes with his quick wit and fabulous sense of humor. When the visit ended, I left feeling happy—he and Danae always made me feel right at home. Frank and Danae had so much love for each other. I know he will be missed.
