Our dear, sweet Joe, your passing has left such a hole that never can be filled. We watched you grow from our beautiful little boy helping with the daycare kids and taking care of your little brother John when you were just 11 years old! We knew that someday you would make a great husband and father. You grew up to be a loving husband to Tara and a caring father to Carter and Mya. You will live on in your children and in our hearts forever! We cannot begin to tell you how much you will be missed! Rest in Peace, our son. We love you so much!
All our love,
Mom and Dad

I am very sorry to hear of Joe's passing. Growing up, our families would head out to Roy Lake almost every Sunday during the summer. Joe loved to hike and swim there. Although we did not stay in touch, I was always glad to hear updates through my parents. My condolences go to Tara, Carter & Mya, as well as to Tom, Arlene, Justin, Jesse & John.

I remember when Joe first invited me to play in a band with him. It was the first time anyone had sought me out in such a specific way. He was deeply passionate about the things he did, he was willing to work hard in order to be great at what he did and could accomplish anything he put His mind to.
Most recently, I affirmed him in the way he reached out to me online, calling me out and holding me accountable to who He knew I was striving to be. While we didn't talk much, he didn't hesitate to be a friend when I needed it most.
My prayers are with him and the Troness family. I'm sorry for your loss.

My family has always been close with the Troness family. I was a little bit older than Joe and we attended the same school. We then grew closer when he became a part of our close knit music crowd in Sisseton, South Dakota. We grew up in a small town and things like art and music really brought a lot of us together and we had a lot of good times together. We briefly attended the same university and I was able to reconnect with him a few times while in college. Last year, we began to communicate more frequently about the health issues that we were both dealing with and Joe was the way I always remembered him; he was kind, supportive and strong. You didn't have to know Joe well to know that he loved life, his wife and his children.

There are hundreds of memories that come rushing to mind when I think of Joe. There was a period where he was the kid in grade school that made me laugh with his funny comments. There was the period where he'd show up with his guitar/bass/drums and we'd play music together. Then there was a period where we hated each other, followed by a longer period we seemed to be inseparable. But usually I remember what a genuine person he was and how easy it was to confide in him. Through the highs and the lows, I could trust him to listen and be honest. He had all of the marks of a true friend.
One such instance is when I decided to propose to my (now) wife. I told Joe before anyone else. He wanted come along to help me shop for rings. He helped me talk through ideas of when and where to do it. He even suggested it be at the location Tara and he were about to have their wedding. It was certainly a high point I will never forget and I'm sure glad he was there.
I am sad to have lost such a great friend. I wish Joe and his family peace and comfort.

My first memory is playing instruments in the same house, when we had band practice at my cousins. We used to play pogs in the parking lot. Joe, was always a good kid and never made poor choices. I was happy to talk to you across social media a few years ago to see you made it to a wonderful life with a beautiful wife and kids. Prayers for your entire family for strength.

What can I say about Joe? He was my older brother. We had our differences growing up but we grew a lot closer as adults. He was always looking to see if he could help me as I was going through different phases of work as an adult and looked to help how he could when I had decided on a career. He could always make me laugh when we were at family gatherings. It's very sad to see how quickly his life ended but I'm glad that he's no longer suffering.

Joe, I miss you so much! My first memory I remember is when you were born. I was so happy to have a little brother! I would of rather you won your fight, but I'm glad your pain is gone! Love, your big brother Justin

Oh, Joe... :' (
When I first knew of Joe, he was the little brother of Justin, in Sisseton, SD... We got older, and ended up being friends and playing music together, in a band and sometimes just the two of us... We both moved around, but still stayed in touch for many years until we finally got carried off by different currents, as happens in life with old friends... Joe always had ambition for something bigger and better, and I'm glad to see he succeeded wildly... Rest easy, brother...

I was very saddened to hear of the passing of my old friend and bandmate. Joe and I played together in The Activation back in 2000-2001 and even made some original studio recordings in Fergus Falls MN. My condolences go out to his wife Tara and their two children and his parents Tom and Arlene, and his brothers Justin, Jesse, and John. May God be with you my friend
