Obituary of Joyce Edna Schmidt

Joyce Edna Schmidt, 91, died on February 9, 2020. She was born September 4, 1928 in Bowler, WI. Daughter of the late Ella & Julius Jaeger. She attended Bowler School System K-12, and graduated in 1946. She moved to Appleton, WI in 1946, where she got her first job at Fox River Knitting Mills. She married Frank Schmidt February 14, 1948 at Christus Lutheran Church in Clintonville, WI. She attended Zion Lutheran Church for many years, then Our Saviors Lutheran Appleton. She worked for the next 40 Years at Zwickers Knitting Mills, Gimbels, Culligan Water Conditioning, Tuttle Press/Artfare, until a serious car accident forced her into retirement in 1989. After retirement her and Frank spent their winters in the warmer climates R/Ving with friends and family, plus enjoying as much time as possible with their grandchildren. Everyone that knew Joyce and had been to the cottage on Shawano Lake over 43 years shared in many fun times with family and friends. Also for the hundreds of quilts she handmade and donated to Harbor House, Habitat for Humanity, Red Cross, the needy and many local shelters. Anyone that truly knew her knew how much she loved to “Polka”, attending Friday and Sunday Polka dances throughout the Valley, the beautiful roses that she grew, singing in the church choir, cleaning the church, donating many hours of driving the elderly to their appointments and twice a week serving food at the Randall Court. Survivors include one daughter Kayelyn, a son-in-law David, grandchildren Dan and Robin, David II, Dusty, Danielle and Paul. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Frank of 47 years, a son Randy (which met his untimely death at the age of 20 in 1980). Two sisters Edna and Ester, a brother Alvin and sister-in-laws, Melinda, Ella, Ruby, Eleanor and brother-in-law August.
