Obituary of Kathleen Ann McCann

Kathleen Ann McCann, 70, of Tampa, Florida, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2019 in Tampa, Florida surrounded by family and friends.

Kathy, as she liked to be called, lived a life of love and service to her family, her friends, and her community. She served as an educator for children with special needs in Rhode Island for 28 years. As a teacher, she changed the lives of her students with her kind words and gentle demeanor. After retiring and moving from Rhode Island to Tampa, she continued dedicating her time to helping others through her volunteer work at local schools and community organizations. After her daughter, Molly, followed in her footsteps and became an educator, Kathy enjoyed volunteering in Molly’s classrooms and making sure the children always had plenty of supplies and special activities, especially for the holidays. She particularly enjoyed showering the students with presents during the holiday seasons to ensure each child felt loved. Everyone who knew Kathy was touched by her kindness and concern. She was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Tampa, FL and participated in St. Vincent DePaul Society and many Bible Studies.

Kathy will be remembered for many things; however, she will be remembered most for her devotion to her daughter, Molly. From the moment Molly was born, Kathy dedicated her life to creating a world of love, joy, and memories for Molly and her friends. From volunteering at Molly’s schools to planning special trips and activities, Kathy and Molly developed a special bond and friendship that was evident to everyone who knew them.

Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Anne Driscoll; her husband, James J. McCann; and her sister, Sandra Deckett. She is survived by her loving daughter, Molly McCann of Tampa, Florida; her brother, Thomas Driscoll of West Warwick, RI; her brother, Greg Driscoll of Spring Hill, Florida; and her brother-in-law, Paul Deckett of Mansfield, MA. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Nancy Ryan (James) of and her brother-in-law, John E. McCann III (Marann) of Rhode Island, along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 AM on Saturday, September 28th at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, Tampa. Following the Memorial Mass, a reception will be held at the Heritage Isles Country Club at 1:00 pm. Following her services in Tampa, close family will travel with Kathy to Rhode Island where a service will be held to commemorate her life with her family and friends residing in New England.

Her final resting place will be alongside her husband at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in West Warwick, Rhode Island.
