Sylvester King

Obituary of Sylvester King

University of Florida Gator Letter winner Sylvester "Freight Train" King, passed away in Tampa, FL on July 27th, 2019 at 6:21 from multiple organ failure at the age of 63.  Originally from Jacksonville, Sylvester played high school football at Raines High. He began his collegiate football career at the University of Tampa before  transferring to the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he met his future wife, Vicky.  Freight was a football letter winner in 1975-1977 playing defensive tackle. He spent his life working as a Plant Manager for the Winn Dixie chain of stores and made his home in Lutz, FL.  He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Vicky, sister-In-law Luevenia King, nieces Letitia and Jenny, and many special friends whose lives he touched throughout his time on this earth.  He was well known for his love of golf, and especially for his love of cooking and smoking meats.  He was working to perfect his BBQ seasoning and skills, and all those who he generously shared his masterpieces with (too many to count!) will tell you that he accomplished that goal!    Freight was dedicated to the Land O'Lakes High School Girls' Soccer Team and Special Olympics Pasco, and could often be spotted standing on the sidelines cheering them on.  A celebration of his Life will be held in the Fall. The family has entrusted care and services to Loyless Funeral Home.
